Consumers looking for a low-cost SUV often gravitate toward the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. After all, it boasts of plenty of style and many advanced safety features. The automaker even claims that the new lineup helps to make “boundaries redefined,” but most people aren’t happy with the ways it is redefining driving. From the faulty electrical system to the defective service brakes and malfunctioning fuel system, this SUV ranks as one of the biggest lemons.

The heart of the electrical system begins with the battery and alternator, but it goes beyond that. Nearly every feature in a modern vehicle relies on a properly functioning electrical system.
One Edmunds user discusses frustration with the Mirage G4. “I love my car but I have problems I have been back to my dealer five times about my radio it keeps turning off and won’t come back on. The apple car play made my phone shut off and my phone won’t come back on. My radio has been replaced twice I have only had my car for five months. So every month I have to drive almost two hours to get them to fix it.”
This isn’t just annoying, but also time-consuming. Sadly, the company has admitted to even larger electrical concerns. Service Bulletin #TSB-18-13-003 talks to dealers about the Check Engine Light coming on in failsafe mode or when the engine doesn’t restart after a short trip. Both of these instances appear to be most prevalent after driving in cold weather. No matter how low the price is on any car, these are issues that shouldn’t be occurring. While the automaker claims it is “designed for colorful driving,” reviews prove that this car shouldn’t be driven anywhere.
Air bags function to keep occupants safe. Even on the most basic vehicle models, this system is designed to protect, but can also malfunction.
One such example is found on the NHTSA website. “On November 18, 2019, I was in a motor vehicle accident, hitting a buck going 60 miles an hour. My air bags did not deploy and my seat belt failed to lock on impact.”
It’s clear that Mitsubishi is dealing with air bag related concerns. In fact, NHTSA Campaign Number 19V330000 states that over 26,000 vehicles might have defective air bags, which don’t deploy during a collision. The trouble stems from an internal acceleration sensor inside the ECU and SRS that misinterprets vibrations as a reason to disable the air bag. What’s left is countless occupants who are left without the protection they assume is in place. In fact, stacked up pillows would do a better job than these air bags.
Furthermore, the braking system is also in place to keep everyone on the road safe, but the Mirage G4 fails in this department as well.
One Edmunds comment states “So I got the car 2017 Dec and by the first 4 months I had to take back and get the rear brakes readjusted 2 times then about April they needed to be done again the guy from the dealership refused to readjusted them again till my next oil change so I kept driving then by September 10 I was going 45mph seen a car stopped to make a left turn so I hit the brakes my brakes completely failed I could not stop hit the rear end of the other car somehow ended up in the center of the road and got T-boned back side of the driver’s it knocked the back door all the way to the center console knocked me out in the accident and Broke my right femur bone and had to have a rod placed in my leg after the accident overall I think and truly believe the safety needs to be looked at again all the way around before it gets bad and someone dies I’ve had a lot of people look at the photos and tell me I’m lucky to be alive someone even asked if the car caught on fire as bad as it was.”
Unfortunately, there are no manufacturer communications regarding the braking system at all. Instead, Mitsubishi feels that it has acknowledged too much already, and probably doesn’t want any more liability. Sure, the Mirage G4 is low-priced, but what is the cost that owners end up paying? It could be their lives.
Think you have a lemon? Sit back and let the experts work out your lemon case at no cost to you. The law makes Mitsubishi pay legal fees. You may be able to get your lemon out of your life. Every year, auto manufacturers buy back, replace or pay cash settlements to thousands of ‘lemon’ owners like you.
