The 2022 Kia Soul has a unique appearance and offers plenty of fun. The automaker claims it offers
“next-level versatility,” but customers are sounding the alarm that there are some major defects. Some of the top complaints revolve around a faulty engine, a malfunctioning powertrain and a shoddy suspension.

Problems with the Engine

Without a reliable engine, the car is basically a piece of junk. The same appears to be true with the 2022 Kia Soul models.

One customer wrote this complaint on Kia Soul Forums. “Engine auto turn off at stops…DEADLY…this will cost KIA millions in lawsuits…suggest dealer by pass or turn off.”

This isn’t the first time that the Kia Soul has dealt with engine issues. It seems to be a reoccurring theme since the Soul was first introduced. Most notably, many of the previous models suffered from recalls and class-action lawsuits because of a dangerous engine. The GDI engines used in older models were causing the car to start on fire spontaneously. It’s very possible that this defect could also be present on newer models, but it would take some time before that’s discovered. It would be a pity to be one of the drivers that has to discover nothing has changed.

Problems with the Powertrain

The powertrain needs to be just as reliable as the engine, as it is responsible for transmitting the energy created by the motor to the wheels. Yet, the 2022 Kia Soul seems to be struggling on this front as well.

Here’s another comment left on Kia Soul Forums. “Transmission died today on a brand new car that I’ve only had for 4 months!”

Where is this “next-level versatility” that’s being boasted of? At this point, one has to wonder if Kia even knows how to put together a vehicle. With all of the major systems falling apart, this automaker shouldn’t be trusted to construct a LEGO vehicle.

Problems with the Suspension

While the suspension might not be as recognizable as the engine or the powertrain, it still needs to be in functioning order for a safe drive. One false move can cause a massive accident.

Here’s an example from the Kia Soul Forums. “We have a rattling in the driver side tire area. It only has 2500 miles on it. Here’s what else is happening besides the rattling: If you’re on a slight incline and turn the wheel to the left, you get a weird sound, [kind of] grinding clunk sound. I’ve noticed the caliper on that side sticks sometimes, not always. The dealership wants to charge us $140 to put it on a diagnostic machine. I’ve never known a computer to diagnose possible suspension or brake component failures. They also say the warranty might not cover repairs……. it’s a 2022 with 2500 miles on it and the warranty won’t cover repairs? They asked if we ran over anything, ‘Only the speed bumps in your lot at 5 mph.'”

It appears that the Kia dealership involved in this story is trying to cover up defects for the automaker – even trying to charge the customer for diagnostics that should be included. At this point, it would be fair to assume that there’s no “Soul” found in the production line at Kia, with engineers missing critical design functions and cars leaving the factory with serious design flaws. It is hard to trust this company at this point.
