2019 Lincoln MKZ Problems and Top Complaints – Is Your Car A Lemon?

Electrical and seat issues among the top complaints received by the NHTSA from vehicle owners

Updated on Author: Brian Jones

Luxury sedans have certainly made a mark on the country, with the 2019 Lincoln MKZ leading the pack. The automaker claims that this vehicle has “technology to drive you forward.” However, it seems that this is actually the area of the vehicle that will be its downfall, from the faulty electrical system to the defective seat construction.

Problems with the Electrical System

Consider it’s the technology that is supposed to set this vehicle apart; it would only make sense that the electrical system would be superior, but it’s nothing other than a failure.

Here is one NHTSA complaint, “The instrument cluster failed 2 days after purchase. No indication of speed or fuel level.”

Customers are left driving blind when this occurs, but this incident is only the start of electrical system problems. Service Bulletin #TSB 20-2363 discusses how many models are struggling with SYNC 3 performance concerns. This system is used for connectivity and entertainment, thereby hindering the pleasure of the drive when it’s not working. There is also a Service Bulletin #SSM 48929, which discusses skipping, hiccupping and pauses while receiving directions from the navigation system. One would think Lincoln would hurry to fix this, but the communication states, “No repairs should be made to attempt to correct this condition. Engineering is currently working on a solution for this condition.” In the meantime, 2019 Lincoln MKZ owners will continue showing up at the wrong locations while listening to these navigation errors.

Problems with the Seats

This luxury model is meant to be comfortable and relaxing, but there have been some issues with the seating that might affect this.

One NHTSA review says, “I was driving and smelt burning. My makeup mirror was in my front seat. Seems like the sun bounced off the mirror and caught the seat on fire. I was stationary at a redlight.”

Seats shouldn’t catch on fire that easily. Yet, this isn’t the only trouble Lincoln owners are facing. Service Bulletin #TSB 20-2171 talks about seat pan looseness that leads to movement, clunking and thumping while driving. The cause is a defective seat pan track that needs to be reinforced. Additionally, Service Bulletin #TSB 19-2293 discusses how the massage and lumbar adjustments on multi-contour seats might become inoperative. The cause of this malfunction is terminal fretting at the multi-contour seat module connector. To repair this concern, the dealer must replace the existing connectors and then reroute the entire harness. While all of these issues might be tiny in comparison, they add up, especially when owners have to continually take their vehicle in for repair continually. Some customers barely get the 2019 Lincoln MKZ back from one problem before taking it in for another. Might as well have bought a Ford.
