On April 18, 2013 a complainant was contacted by a collector from Account Brokers Inc. about an unpaid debt that the company had acquired. After the complainant answered the phone the collector immediately asked that the debt balance be paid in full on the spot. The complainant countered this demand by asking to make a payment of $100, which was turned down by the collections company almost immediately, and was instead met by a threat to pursue a lawsuit against the complainant. It was after this phone call that the complainant’s mother was contact by Account Brokers Inc., telling her the details of the debt and insisting that it be paid immediately. The complainant’s mother was also threatened with a lawsuit over the debt in question. After finding out that this company had contacted her mother the complainant became angry and upset and chose to file a lawsuit against Account Brokers to protect herself and her FDCPA rights.
