Volkswagen Atlas Infotainment Display Screen Going Black Investigation (2023–2025)

Class Action Investigation

Volkswagen Atlas Infotainment Blackout lawsuit

Lemberg Law is conducting a class action investigation into infotainment system and instrument cluster failures in Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles from the 2023 through 2025 model years after a growing number of owners reported screens glitching, pixelating, or going completely black during normal driving.

I’m Sergei Lemberg. For more than two decades, my work has focused on identifying patterns in consumer defect complaints before manufacturers publicly acknowledge broader problems. Any modern vehicle can experience electronic glitches from time to time. However, when the same screens fail in the same way across multiple vehicles, model years, and mileage ranges, those repeated complaints may point to a systemic defect.

That pattern is what brought our team to the digital display systems used in the Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport.

Let’s take a closer look.

What’s the Problem with Volkswagen Atlas Screens?

At the center of many complaints is the Atlas infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. These displays control a wide range of functions, including navigation, backup cameras, climate settings, driver assistance alerts, and smartphone connectivity.

Unlike older vehicles that used separate buttons and gauges, many Atlas functions now rely on the central touchscreen display. As a result, when the screen malfunctions, drivers may lose access to several features at once.

Owners report that the screens may suddenly:

  • Turn completely black while driving
  • Become pixelated or scrambled
  • Freeze and stop responding to touch inputs
  • Reboot without warning
  • Lose access to cameras or navigation

In some complaints, the digital instrument cluster that displays speed and warnings also goes dark.

Because these systems control many vehicle functions, a single display failure can affect several safety features.

What are Owners Experiencing?

Here are several representative complaint excerpts from Atlas owners describing infotainment and instrument cluster failures.

“Screen pixelates and goes completely black losing maps, talk to text, phone etc. We have had the vehicle in 3 times. There is NO FIX from VW at this time. They replaced the screen and it continues to happen.”

“Infotainment system sporadically becomes pixelated and hard to see and use. The dealership has verified the issue, confirms VW is aware and says there is no fix.”

“The infotainment center is not working- the screen is black. I am unable to see any of my cameras, change my air/heat- it is currently set to cold and it is freezing when I drive my car, I can’t use my map or hands free calling.”

Some owners report that the failures began shortly after purchase.

“Vehicle was purchased brand new April 2024. This problem started at 4 days old with 32 miles on it. No warning. Just goes black or starts to pixelate randomly.”

Others say the glitching display affects critical features such as the rear camera.

“When the screen goes fuzzy it still works, I am unable to see anything on the screen. When I put the vehicle in reverse I cannot see anything on the backup camera.”

Are Dealers Able to Fix the Problem?

Many complaints mention repeated visits to Volkswagen dealerships without a lasting repair.

Some owners say the infotainment screen has already been replaced, yet the problem returned. Others report that dealerships updated the software or performed system resets, but the display failures continued.

One owner explained that the dealership acknowledged the problem but could not provide a solution.

What Can You Do If Your Atlas Screen Fails

If your Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport experiences infotainment glitches or instrument cluster blackouts, there are several practical steps you can take:

  • Document when the screen glitches or shuts down
  • Take photos or video of the malfunction if possible
  • Keep records of dealership visits and repair attempts
  • Save all service invoices and work orders.

Understanding Your Legal Rights

Depending on your state and the vehicle’s repair history, repeated infotainment failures may involve:

  • Warranty protections
  • Lemon law rights
  • State consumer protection statutes
  • Class action litigation

Each case depends on the specific facts, including repair attempts and time out of service.
