2025 Nissan Kicks

Key Points

  • Our team analyzed consumer complaints, internal data, and federal safety information to identify the most common problems reported for the 2025 Nissan Kicks.
  • Owners most often report dashboard and infotainment screen freezing, including complaints about blank screens, warning beeps, and loss of access to driving information.
  • Other complaints involve windshield cracking and leaking, steering issues, and premature tire wear, and repeated or unresolved issues may allow owners to pursue lemon law relief.

One trend I keep seeing across newer vehicles as rely more and more on electronic components is dashboard and infotainment screens freezing or going completely blank. It is similar to what your phone does every so often when an app crashes. The difference is that when it happens while driving at highway speeds with no speedometer and no warning lights, it is a serious safety issue.

The 2025 Nissan Kicks is one of the vehicles where this is showing up consistently in the data.

My name is Sergei Lemberg, and I’m a lemon law attorney with over twenty years of experience representing consumers in vehicle defect cases. I reviewed NHTSA complaints, owner feedback, and our own internal data for the 2025 Kicks. I need to say that not all Kicks will experience these issues. These are simply the most commonly reported defects, likely affecting a small percentage of vehicles.

Here is what I found.

Most Common Problems

Several data sources reveal recurring issues reported by 2025 Nissan Kicks owners. Based on complaint frequency and severity, the primary problems include:

  • Dashboard and Infotainment Screen Freezing: Many owners report that the dashboard screen freezes, especially after remote start or in cold weather, sometimes turning black and beeping continuously, impairing visibility and safety.
  • Windshield Cracking and Leaking: Numerous reports of spontaneous windshield cracks within months of purchase have surfaced, along with leaks around the windshield edges causing interior water damage.
  • Steering Issues: Popping noises during turns and telescoping steering wheels moving out of locked position have been reported, with dealers unable to diagnose or resolve the problem.

Other less frequent but notable defects include slow wireless phone charging, premature tire wear caused by suspension issues, and paint peeling.

Top Problem #1: Dashboard and Infotainment Screen Freezing

I found the most commonly reported issue involves the dashboard display freezing or going completely black, often accompanied by warning beeps. This occurs during remote start or cold weather conditions when the screen fails to display essential driving information such as speed or system warnings.

Symptoms include:

  • Dashboard freezes shortly after remote start
  • Black or blank screen with continuous beeping sounds
  • Inability to interact with the touchscreen controls
  • Warning lights flashing erratically on the instrument panel

Here’s two complaint quotes that highlight this issue

“Vehicle was beeping and flashing warning/service lights. I cannot see my speed. Vehicle was beeping and flashing warning/service lights. System would not shut off. This occurred three times within the first week.”

“The contact stated while reversing, the back over prevention display screen failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the back over prevention screen displayed a black screen.”

Top Problem #2: Windshield Cracking and Leaking

Another serious problem is spontaneous windshield cracking. Owners report cracks as early as a few hundred miles, with no accidents or impact to cause damage. Additionally, water leaks around the windshield seals have led to interior flooding and repeated windshield replacements.

Symptoms and effects reported:

  • Curved cracks appearing inside front windshield
  • Water leaks during rain or car washes soaking front passenger floor
  • Multiple windshield replacements required without a permanent fix
  • Dealer refusal to investigate beyond replacing glass

Vehicle owners express concern about safety and manufacturer response:

“By 2,000 miles, cracked windshield experienced. Had windshield replaced. After 1st rain, windshield leaked, passenger top. Passenger floor also saturated. Windshield removed then replaced after finding no cracks or problems with seal. Then, experienced 3 leaks passenger top windshield and ice 4-6 inches wide along entire interior bottom of windshield. windshield, again, replaced. Dealer refuses to check alternative reasons for leaking such as seam failure. Windshield replacements done by safelite. Dealer insists it’s their responsibility. However, seam leaks and other issues are the dealers responsibility.”

“On or about 01/13/2025 my windshield cracked spontaneously during normal highway driving. As this is a brand new vehicle I find that Nissan needs to investigate the quality control of their windshield installation for the 2025 Kicks models.”

Top Problem #3: Steering Issues

Steering complaints are showing up in the 2025 Kicks data. It reminds me of the steering issues we have covered recently in the Honda Prologue and Mazda CX-90.

Common symptoms reported are:

  • Popping or clicking sounds from the steering wheel during left or right turns
  • Noise becoming more prominent and persistent over time
  • Telescoping steering wheel moving out of the locked position while driving
  • Dealers unable to duplicate the issue or provide a diagnosis

One complaint stated

“The contact owns a 2025 Nissan Kicks. The contact stated that there was a popping sound coming from the steering wheel while making a left or right turn. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to duplicate the sound. The dealer had not diagnosed or repaired the vehicle. The contact stated that the sound had become more prominent and persistent. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.”
