Is Sullivan Kline Group a scam?

They’re legit. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has not posted a lot of detailed information about the Sullivan Kline Group. They do indicate that SKG is a collection agency and that the BBB established a profile page for SKG in 2018.

According to its website, SKG “is a company that helps consumers resolve past-due financial obligations…by empowering them … through education and payment plans …to help them return to a path toward improved financial health.” SKG states that its “clear and honest communications” and its “familiarity with the financial demands placed on” consumers are its strengths. SKG offers “programs that provide… a payment schedule and the cash flow… to allow consumers to meet their various obligations.” SKG provides third-party collection services directly and through its affiliate companies.

SKG “pursues the collections of commercial and consumer debts, with an emphasis on consumer credit card debt acquisitions and medical debt.” SKG’s staff specializes in sending collection letters and making phone calls. Their management team “has over thirty years’ experience in the financial and collection industry.”

As for compliance, SKG states that it “remains on the cutting edge by following the latest regulatory and compliance standards (CFPB, TCPA, 501(r), etc.) … and by utilizing state-of-the-art collection tools to preserve their reputation as one of the most secure collection agencies in the industry.” The SKG website also cites its community involvement, licensing and bonding, and commitment to sustainability objectives as indicators of consumer-friendly practices. However, the SKG website does not include a consumer resources page or any links to consumer protection resources, laws, or enforcement agencies.

How many complaints are there against Sullivan Kline Group?

The BBB has given Sullivan Kline Group a rating of F. This rating results from SKG’s short length of time in business and its failure to respond to any of the complaints filed by consumers. As of January 2019, the BBB has closed 15 complaints against SKG in the preceding three years, all of them in the previous 12 months. All of those complaints cited problems with billing and collections. Neither the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) nor Justin has posted any complaint information about SKG.

Can Sullivan Kline Group Sue Me or Garnish My Wages?

It is illegal for a debt collector to make empty threats to sue you or garnish your wages. It is also unlikely SKG would sue you for a debt you may not owe or they cannot validate. However, debt collection agencies are known to have summoned debtors to court and garnish wages after a default judgement. Contacting an attorney BEFORE this could possibly happen would be a smart move. We’ve helped thousands of consumers fight back against unscrupulous debt collection harassers. Can you help me file a No Fee Lawsuit against Sullivan Kline Group?

Absolutely. Here are some Sample Complaints

Complaints against Sullivan Kline Group universally cite problems resulting from efforts to collect fraudulent dents, as well as potential information privacy violations. In October 2018, a complainant indicated that he had received a robocall from SKG requesting a call back regarding a bank account he had closed 10 year earlier. He claimed that when he called SKG, the representative who took his call recited his “name, old and current address, phone number, social security number, relatives, old banking institutions, and other …information he should not” have known. The SKG representative went on to tell the complainant that he “owed on an old Wachovia Bank account he had… opened in May of 2008 and…had closed in March of 2012.” The complainant stated that the issue during the phone conversation was that although he had had a Wachovia account, he had been living in South Carolina since 2010 and had closed the account prior to moving. Regardless, the complainant claimed that the SKG representative began using scare tactics to convince him to pay a charged-off debt, asking for the routing number to his current checking account. The SKG representative also allegedly threatened to “report him to the credit reporting agencies and ruin his chances of ever getting another credit card or any other service…for 5 years.”

The complainant stated that after conducting an internet search, he discovered “multiple scam complaints of the exact same story given to others to collect a charge off debt.” He stated he was more concerned about how much of his personal information SKG was in possession of and what they intended to do with it later. He asked the BBB how he is supposed to protect his identity with companies like SKG routinely researching his background and asked them to “shut this company down and put all of them in jail…where they belong.” Six additional complaints on the BBB site also cited SKG’s effort to collect allegedly fraudulent debts originating with Wells Fargo/Wachovia.

Sullivan Kline Group Calling You?

Federal laws protect you. The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) regulates the behavior of collection agencies by prohibiting actions such as the use of abusive or threatening language; harassment; or the use of false or misleading information to collect a debt. The FCRA regulates how collection agencies and creditors report delinquent debts to credit reporting agencies. Additional consumer protection laws include the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA).

But here’s the rub: If you want to enforce your rights, or recover money for violations — you need to sue. These laws provide individuals like you with a means to seek monetary damages in court. For example, the FDCPA allows consumers who have been violated to recover damages of up to $1,000, plus attorney fees and court costs.
