Is Eagle Recovery Associates a scam?

They’re legit. According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Eagle Recovery Associates, Inc. was founded in January 2004, and BBB established its profile page two months later. The BBB lists Eagle Recovery Associates as a collection agency. Buzzfile indicates a founding date of 2003 for Eagle Recovery Associates; an annual revenue estimated at $3.2 million; and a staff size estimated at 28 people.

Eagle’s mission is to set the “standard by which other collection firms are judged,” with a commitment to “exceptional customer service and superior collection results.” Eagle meets these objectives by cultivating relationships with consumers; excelling in customer service; maintaining superior recovery rates; and utilizing technology to streamline the accounts receivable process.

Who does Eagle Recovery Associates collect for?

Eagle Recovery Associates appears to collect primarily for healthcare providers. ERA’s full-service agency offers primary, secondary, and early-out collection programs. They also offer extended business office services to assist their clients’ collection efforts more directly.

Eagle Recovery Associates believes “that protecting our clients by successfully maintaining compliance in a heavily regulated industry is…crucial.” Because a “third party agent is viewed as an extension of the client’s collection process…Eagle consistently emphasizes the sensitivity and professionalism required of our employees while representing our clients.” Although their website claims a “sterling record with State and Federal regulatory bodies… and full compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Acts and applicable State laws,” there are no specific links or references to regulatory agencies. There are also no consumer resources, and the online payment portal page is still under construction.

Can Eagle Recovery Associates Sue Me or Garnish My Wages?

It is illegal for a debt collector to make empty threats to sue you or garnish your wages. It is also unlikely ERA would sue you for a debt you may not owe or they cannot validate. However, debt collection agencies are known to have summoned debtors to court and garnish wages after a default judgement. Contacting an attorney BEFORE this could possibly happen would be a smart move. We’ve helped thousands of consumers fight back against unscrupulous debt collection harassers. Can you help me file a No Fee Lawsuit against Eagle Recovery Associates?

Absolutely.  You can sue a debt collector. Here is a Sample Case Filed in Federal Court:

In July 2015, a complainant indicated that she had been contacted by Eagle Recovery Associates regarding one of her unpaid bills. She indicated her husband had been out of work for three years, had run out of unemployment insurance, and had only just found a new job. She reported that an Eagle representative indicated she didn’t want to pay the bill. The complainant disputed the accusation and indicated she had been trying to make arrangements with all of her creditors, but was having difficulty committing to the larger monthly payments the Eagle representative was insisting on as a minimum. ERA insisted that she pay $175 per month to pay off a debt of $1056.93, but commitments to several other creditors prevented her from accepting this arrangement. She requested a lower monthly amount, and reports being transferred to at least two other representatives, whom she claimed belittled her with comments about not being able to pay her bills or take of her family. The representatives in turn insisted they were following ERA’s official policies and the provisions of the FDCPA. Correspondence between the two parties continued in writing and no resolution appears to have been reached.

Past Press Releases of Lawsuits Brought On By Lemberg Law Against Eagle Recovery Associates Inc

May 30, 2017. On behalf of our client, Lemberg Law recently filed a complaint in U.S. District Court, Western District of Wisconsin. The case, against Eagle Recovery Associates, charges the debt collection agency with violating federal law and asks for $1,000 in statutory damages under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and other relief.

There are few things more unnerving been having a debt collection agency call your boss. It not only brings personal issues into the workplace, but it can also taint how your employer and coworkers perceive you. Our client says that Eagle Recovery Associates called his workplace and spoke with his assistant manager. He says that Eagle Recovery Associates told his manager about the debt, causing him a great deal of embarrassment. During a subsequent conversation, our client told Eagle Recovery Associates that he objected to their calls to his workplace. In response, the debt collector told our client that they could call him anyplace and anytime they wanted.

This lawsuit charges that Eagle Recovery Associates violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) by engaging in harassing behavior; by communicating with a third party about an alleged debt; by using false, deceptive, or misleading representation in connection with the collection of a debt; by using unfair and unconscionable means to collect a debt; and by employing false and deceptive means to collect a debt.

Eagle Recovery Associates Calling You?

Federal laws protect you. The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) regulates the behavior of collection agencies by prohibiting actions such as the use of abusive or threatening language; harassment; or the use of false or misleading information to collect a debt. The FCRA regulates how collection agencies and creditors report delinquent debts to credit reporting agencies. Additional consumer protection laws include the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA).

Can I sue ERA for harassment?

Yes. If you want to enforce your rights, or recover money for violations — you need to sue. Federal laws provide individuals like you with a means to seek monetary damages in court. For example, the FDCPA allows consumers who have been violated to recover damages of up to $1,000, plus attorney fees and court costs.

I have been receiving calls from Eagle Recovery frequently for a year. They claim they are trying to collect a debt ($329) for a hospital bill I received but I noted I paid on a bill in my files. They insisted I give them a debit or credit card over the phone immediately. A year ago, I told them I will not pay unless I see a validated form through snail mail. I told a couple of people this from there and they have never sent anything. I then contacted the hospital and they said I do not owe them anything and have no record of forwarding a debt of mine to anyone. I believe Eagle Recovery may have gotten the information through hacking because I was informed by the hospital they were hacked prior to these calls starting.

I often get calls from them. They never leave a message. I have no debts for them to collect. I think they just use any old number that was ever associated with a person’s name. I have had my new cell phone number for about two years, maybe less. I still get calls for anyone who ever had this number before.
If they have a real legal reason for calling me, then they need to put it in writing. These days, with so many scams out there, how do you know they aren’t faking the number they call from? Could be anyone. And then they want ME to give them the name and address they apparently know all about already? Yeah, right.

They called today. Never had a call from them before. Are you Mrs. C? Verify your address? I asked why. ATTITUDE demanded that I verify my address. I asked her the company name and what they do. She gave it to me with ATTITUDE. I explained that I get at least 7 scam calls per day, DAILY, from the same companies using different numbers, which is why I asked who she was to be wanting my address. Again, ATTITUDE said this is not a scam company! HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT SINCE SHE DID NOT ID HERSELFNUNTIL I ASKED? THE FIRST THINGS OUT OF HER MOUTH AFTER I SAID HELLO WERE Are you Mrs. C? Verify your address. Verify your address! She didn’t even say who she was!!!!!! I had to ask and she was pissed that I asked what the company does before I gave her MY PERSONAL INFORMATION!

3 to 8 calls a week. Threatening collections on voicemail. I block the numbers, so now only get the voicemails .
When I do answer they can’t verify the debt , and make threats of arrest.
My credit is fine and all of my debts are paid.

  • Carol G

I have been getting calls every 4-5 days for months (but I blocked them so never talked to them.) I am not aware of any debts and my credit score is 859, so if I owed anyone it would never be that good! I am tempted to call THEM to ask WHY they want to talk to me, but I am afraid to even connect with them in any way.

Eagle recovery repo my vehicle today. How do I get it back?

  • Sarah P

Eagle recovery has been calling me and I answered this morning around 9 am and he told me I owe a debt from 2014. I haven’t received anything in the mail so I asked if he could send me something he refused. Then I asked if I could pay $40 a month he said no. They want $354 a month I explained I can’t afford that. He then says well you purchased a new vehicle in 2014 and 2017. I told him ya I traded needed a better vehicle to get my disabled child to St Louis. He then states your married so it’s your husbands responsibility too. I signed self responsible on all my documents at a hospital.

They called my husband’s phone. I told her he had passed away she then proceeded to tell me that she was collecting a debt would not let me talk. I screamed over her to never call again. My husband had just passed away a week and a half ago. I am in Iowa and it is not a community property state.

A person ask for someone then they demand I give the person a telephone number by getting it off the caller id but when I said I have a flip phone and I’m the parent they are asking about and this person is not available, they then attempt to ask about the address. I say I am not able to confirm or deny, Eagle rep says, well tell her to expect a notice in the mail and hangs up. Rude …..

  • Arielle D

These people are literally THE WORST! I was contacted a year ago to pay a $2,000 medical debt, and they refused to let me set up a payment plan of $50 bi-weekly (what I could afford). They wanted over $600 that day and almost $200 monthly after that. Not going to happen, I could never afford that. So they left me alone. They called back today and I missed the call so I called back, ya know trying to be a responsible adult. The service I received was DISGUSTING. The first lady I spoke with talked over me and was belittling, said something smart and wouldn’t repeat it, then hung up on me. I called back again and was connected to a “manager”, last name was Lee. She was EVEN WORSE! She started the conversation with a nasty tone with me and I said, “Wait, let’s not even start like this, you can correct your tone”. She replied with “My face is twisted, this is how I talk (Her tone was even worse) so maybe you should know something about someone before you judge”. So you’re saying you are a manager and your physical limitations prevent you from talking to people in a decent manner? Odd, maybe you’re not cut out for the job, which clearly she isn’t. She continued to yell over me and get rowdy so at this point i’m pissed and hang up. I think about it for awhile and decide to call back, I get another woman and tell her I want to talk to Ms Lee’s boss, she says ok. Who comes on the line?? You guessed it. Ms Lee. She was even worse than the first time, she said she reviewed the original call and all the rep said was they would continue with their debt collection efforts. I said alright but what does that mean, to which she replied “it means we will continue with our debt collection efforts”. Thanks, you’re so helpful. I ended up hanging up on her again after she told me not to call their office again and after telling her that she was a rude bitch and to not call me again! Rarely EVER does anybody make me that upset that I act in such a way. If you’re not going to let me pay you on MY TERMS, then STOP CALLING ME! I will be contacting a lawyer at this point, I’ve had enough!

  • M&S

Ok I see you called and texted my business phone……….who ever you are please don’t do it again……..thanks! I will not answer or call back……

  • M&S

Please do not call me or anyone related to me again………..you have been calling my phone and leaving messages……STOP!! Don’t call!!!!!

  • Hill-Pryor

I don’t know why eagle recovery is calling me. I don’t owe anyone that would need too be collected. If the calls continue I will be forced to go legal.

  • Henson

This phone number 800-706-3210 keeps calling saying they are with Eagle Debt Recovery or phone number 618-217-9846 Eagle Debt Collection. I usually hang up then check *69. We do not owe anyone that would be turned to a debt collector. We have had this phone number for 30 years, it would be appreciated if you people would stop calling. As I know for a fact debt collectors send out a letter and don’t make harrassing phones calls. If I get any more of these calls they will be turned in to the police
