2026 Genesis GV70

If you poke around our site, you’ll notice we have a lot of content about car problems. Why? Because we are a lemon law firm and this content helps educate our audience. This piece is about the 2026 Genesis GV70, and the number one issue is ICCU failure.

If you’ve read about or owned a Hyundai or Kia EV, you may already be familiar with ICCU failures. Well, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Genesis is built on a similar platform, given that Genesis is owned by Hyundai. We’ve been writing about ICCU failures for several years now.

So yet again, I dug into the complaints, our internal client data, online chatter, and found that the 2026 Genesis GV70 is facing the same ICCU issues.

Buckle up. Here we go.

Most Common Problems

Here’s what my research found:

  • Electrical System Failures: Sudden battery warning lights followed by cascading system shutdowns causing complete loss of power while driving.
  • Instrument Cluster and Display Blackouts: Frequent screen blackouts and rebooting of the instrument cluster and climate control displays that impair key driving functions.
  • Brake System Malfunctions: Incidents where brakes freeze in cold weather conditions, causing loss of power assist and ABS function, requiring significant pedal effort.
  • Emergency Braking: Random and unexplained application of emergency braking systems and steering resistance, sometimes without obstacles or warnings.

Top Problem #1: ICCU & Electrical System Failures

I reviewed numerous owner complaints and dealer diagnostics that highlight serious electrical failures affecting the 2026 GV70.

Symptoms include:

  • Red battery warning light activating suddenly during normal driving
  • Cascading electrical failures disabling power steering, brakes, and other vehicle functions
  • Complete shutdown of the vehicle without prior warning
  • Grinding or abnormal noises from the rear, often preceding shutdown
  • Multiple unrelated diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) appearing simultaneously

One owner shared: “A dealership service advisor subsequently informed me that the vehicle has been diagnosed with an ICCU failure, a component responsible for charging the 12-volt battery and maintaining critical electrical systems.”

Top Problem #2: Instrument Cluster and Display Blackouts

I found repeated reports of the instrument cluster and center stack displays suddenly going dark, leaving owners without access to speedometer, climate controls, or seat heating functions.

Symptoms include:

  • Instrument cluster screen going black or rebooting while driving
  • Climate control screen becoming unresponsive, with seat heaters stuck on
  • Multiple restarts needed to restore functionality, sometimes only temporarily
  • Extended repair times waiting for replacement screens under warranty

One owner stated: “The Instrument Cluster Screen went blank (OFF) while driving 65mph on the freeway. The system began to reboot within a few seconds as I was attempting to pull over to the shoulder of the freeway.” Another noted: “The climate control screen went completely dark, rendering the HVAC and seat heating/cooling systems inaccessible via the center stack. Dealer said it was a rare failure but took weeks to fix.”

Top Problem #3: Emergency Braking

Several owners reported random and unexpected activation of emergency braking and steering interventions without obstacles or warnings.

Symptoms include:

  • Sudden emergency braking while cruising or driving steady
  • Warning alarms activating despite driver input or lane assist being off
  • Intermittent and unpredictable nature of the problem

One owner recounted: “My GV70 slammed on the brakes with no obstacle ahead and the steering locked up briefly. I filed an NHTSA complaint and the dealer took it seriously.” Genesis has acknowledged these complaints but no permanent fix is confirmed yet.

What Should You Do If Your 2026 Genesis GV70 Is a Lemon?

I understand how frustrating and dangerous these problems can be, especially when they persist despite repair attempts. Under lemon laws, your vehicle may qualify as a lemon if it has a substantial defect covered by warranty that cannot be fixed after a reasonable number of repair attempts.

I recommend you start by documenting every issue in detail. Keep records of dealership visits, repair orders, warnings, and communications. Report the problems to both Genesis and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This helps build a formal complaint record.
