Key Points
- Our team analyzed real consumer complaints, NHTSA data, recall filings, and service bulletins to identify commonly reported problems with the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado.
- Owners most often report brake master cylinder failures, transmission problems with limp mode, electrical and infotainment malfunctions, and power steering issues.
- Owners with repeated or unresolved defects may have rights under state lemon laws, including a possible refund, replacement, or compensation.
As part of our continuing series examining vehicle defects and consumer rights, I began looking into the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado, a truck I was already tracking due to a growing number of master cylinder complaints we had been monitoring.
What started as a focused look at the brake issue expanded as I reviews more and more data reporting a range of additional problems, from transmission failures to electrical malfunctions.
I’m Sergei Lemberg, and with over twenty years representing consumers in lemon law and vehicle defect cases, I dug into owner complaints, NHTSA data, recall filings, and service bulletins to share what I found and what it means for current owners.
Most Common Problems
Several data sources reveal recurring issues reported by 2025 Chevrolet Colorado owners. Based on complaint frequency and severity, the primary problems include:
- Master Cylinder and Brake Failures: Sudden brake pedal failures causing loss of braking power and multiple dashboard brake warnings.
- Transmission Failure and Limp Mode: Sudden loss of acceleration, transmission solenoid and valve body failures leading to limp mode and unsafe driving conditions.
- Electrical and Infotainment Malfunctions: Infotainment systems and digital instrument clusters going blank, software update failures, and flickering headlight issues.
- Power Steering and Hydraulic Issues: Intermittent loss of electric power steering, causing dangerously heavy steering feel.
Minor reports also include audio volume spikes, adaptive cruise control safety concerns, and battery-related warning lights flickering.

Top Problem #1: Master Cylinder and Brake Failures
In my investigation, master cylinder failure stands out as the most frequently reported and most serious issue in the 2025 Colorado. Owners report sudden, complete braking loss while driving, often followed by multiple dashboard warning alerts.
Symptoms include:
- Brake pedal going to the floor with minimal braking response
- ABS, brake system, traction control, ESC, and trailer brake warnings illuminating simultaneously
- “Brake system failure – do not exceed 62 mph” messages
- Dealership diagnoses confirming a defective master brake cylinder often on backorder
- Dealerships are immobilizing vehicles for safety reasons
Top Problem #2: Transmission Failure and Limp Mode
Additionally, transmission failures are the second most prevalent issue with the 2025 Colorado. They often manifest as sudden loss of acceleration or inability to shift properly, putting drivers in risky situations.
Symptoms include:
- “Reduced acceleration, drive with care” warnings on the dashboard
- Complete loss of vehicle acceleration while engine revs increase (like being stuck in neutral)
- Transmission solenoid or valve body failures diagnosed by dealers
- Long delays for replacement parts due to limited availability
- Limp mode engaging, limiting vehicle speed and gear range
Here is how some owners explained the issue
“After only 400 miles on the odometer, I experienced complete transmission failure while on a highway and was nearly hit by the vehicle behind me, luckily that did not happen.”
“The vehicle while on a main road (state highway) with other vehicles traveling at speeds of 40mph or greater, experienced a sudden mechanical failure that resulted in a complete loss of acceleration, and my vehicle was nearly rear ended by high-speed oncoming traffic behind me.”
“Upon the vehicle coming to a complete stop in the middle of this main road/state highway, the vehicle was turned back on and then went into a “Limp Mode” and was able to slowly crawl to the dealership which it was purchased from nearby.”

Top Problem #3: Electrical and Infotainment Malfunctions
The 2025 Colorado suffers from numerous electronic system failures affecting infotainment, instrument clusters, and lighting.
Symptoms include:
- Infotainment system and dashboard cluster going completely blank
- Failure of software updates with undefined timelines for resolution
- Headlights pulsating and flickering especially when heated seats or steering wheel heat are in use, impairing nighttime visibility
- Unexpected audio volume spikes causing hearing discomfort
- Multiple dashboard warning lights related to ABS, traction control, and braking systems without clear fixes
Take a look at these owner quotes
“The infotainment system and the driver dash went completely blank and stayed that way. The infotainment system had a picture of a care with a wrench and screw driver stating software update failed.”
“The headlights flicker/pulse creating visibility issues at night. This occurs when the heated seats are activated. This is a safety concern for myself, passengers, other drivers, and pedestrians. Flickering lights can cause an accident due to poor visibility and the creating of false shadows. This would also hinder the ability to see pedestrians.”
“I started the truck and experienced an extreme and unexpected audio volume spike from the factory BOSE sound system. The startup sound and turn-signal chime played at an excessively loud level, far beyond normal operation. The sound was sudden and intense, causing immediate ear pain, ringing, and a headache.”

Top Problem #4: Power Steering and Hydraulic Issues
Owners have also reported electric power steering failures that make the wheel feel very heavy and hard to control.
Symptoms include:
- Complete loss of power steering assist during normal driving, especially in off-road or rough conditions
- Dash warnings indicating “Service power steering”
- Intermittent restoration of power steering after waiting a period with the engine off
- Dealership inspections finding no hardware failures but unable to replicate issues
“The problem has not been corrected at the design or production level, and dealerships are not taking further action.”
