2022 Cadillac XT6 Problems and Top Complaints – Is Your Car A Lemon?

Fuel pump, engine, and vehicle speed control issues are causes of complaints received by the NHTSA from vehicle owners

Updated on Author: Sergei Lemberg

Cadillac boasts that owners of the 2022 XT6 will “look stunning” and “feel safe.” But owners whose engines or fuel pump parts need to be replaced, or whose airbags failed to deploy after other malfunctions, don’t believe they look stunning and they don’t feel safe. While there aren’t huge volumes of complaints, the severity of their content is of great concern.

Most Common Problems

Problems reported to the National Highway Traffic Administration (NHTSA) are varied. There aren’t many of them, but most are very serious. The components and systems that are reportedly problematic include the gasoline fuel system, the engine, vehicle speed control, and lane departure. Complaints filed under the Unknown or Other category include visibility issues about defective side view mirrors and sunroofs that shatter.

There are also 3 recalls that relate to the gasoline fuel system, hydraulic brakes, and suspension. None of these are related to problems aired in NHTSA complaints.

Problems Leading to Recalls

The gasoline fuel system recall is the result of a fuel tank rollover valve that may not seal properly. The danger of this is that it can result in a fuel leak during a rollover crash. This would, in turn, increase the risk of a fire.

According to the NHTSA, the 2022 XT6 has a rollover risk of 16.40%. The rating is determined by a rollover resistance test undertaken by the NHTSA that measures the risk of rollover in a single-vehicle, loss-of-control scenario.

The suspension recall is because of a loose rear suspension toe link that may separate. If this happens, it can cause the driver of the XT6 to lose control, increasing the risk of a crash. The main issue is that the left-rear suspension toe link may not have been fully tightened. The recall states that the fastener may even be missing.

The recall that is due to a problem with hydraulic service brakes relates to a missing warning label on the brake fluid reservoir cap. According to the recall notice, without the label, the brake fluid could be unintentionally contaminated by debris. This would affect brake performance and increase the risk of a crash.

While 2022 Cadillac XT5, XT6, and GMC Acadia vehicles are implicated in the first 2 recalls, the third one only affects the 2022 Cadillac XT6.

Problems with the Engine

An owner from Florida complained to the NHTSA that he needed an engine replacement after driving his 2022 Cadillac XT6 into “low water.” The complaint states that “the belief” is that vehicles near the XT6 created a wake “which caused the engine to die.” Furthermore, the dealer advised that another 2022 XT6 also needed an engine replacement after a similar experience.

The mystery is that there was no water intrusion into the passenger compartment of either Cadillac. The water did not even come up to the doors.

Fuel-Related Problems

In a complaint filed as a gasoline fuel system problem, another owner states that while her husband was driving at about 30 mph, the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated as a result. They called Law Enforcement and somebody shifted the XT6 into neutral and pushed it to the side of the roadway.

The vehicle was then towed to the dealer who told the owner that the fuel pump control module needed to be replaced. But the vehicle, which had a failure mileage of about 8,000, was not repaired. This is because the part was on backorder and not immediately available.

Problems with Vehicle Speed Control

An owner from Michigan had a horrible experience while parking her 2022 Cadillac XT6 that had about 5,829 on the clock. At the time, a young relative was sitting in a booster seat on the rear passenger seat. She pushed the brake pedal down and shifted into Park. But when she released the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated, hit a pole, and crashed into an unoccupied vehicle on the other side of the pole. The airbags didn’t deploy.

A police patrol got them to her residence and the owner got medical assistance. She discovered she had sustained muscle spasms from the upper body to the chin that resulted in headaches. The child didn’t sustain any injuries. She filed a police report and notified the dealer of the failure. At the time of the complaint, there was no diagnosis about the failure and the vehicle hadn’t been repaired.
