  • Infotainment System and Connectivity Issues: Persistent Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth disconnections impacting driver convenience and safety.
  • Keyless Entry and Start System Malfunctions: Frequent “Key Not Detected” errors preventing vehicle start without close contact with the key fob

Other noted problems include interior rattles and squeaks, rust under the mirrors, and inconsistent door lock performance.

Top Problem #1: Transmission Failures and Jerking

I have found that transmission issues are the most pressing problem for many CX-30 owners. Complaints often include harsh shifting, delayed acceleration, and total transmission failure at relatively low mileage.

  • Symptoms I see include transmission slamming into gear unexpectedly or failing to shift smoothly.
  • Owners report slow acceleration from stops followed by sudden jerks into higher gears.
  • Several vehicles have needed complete transmission replacement under warranty, with some dealerships unable to replicate the issue initially.

One owner shared, “The car would roll at 5 to 10 miles an hour before suddenly slamming into second gear.  I took my vehicle in to the dealership to explain the issue and they could not replicate the issues, but it was terrifying to drive.” Another explained, “At about 20,000 miles, I started hearing a loud whining noise and was told my transmission was failing. It could have seized on the highway with no warning.”

Top Problem #2: Unintended Airbag Deployment and Safety Sensor Failures

An affected owner stated, “No warnings before and ridiculous claim that a bubble in a tire could cause an airbag to deploy. This is unacceptable since it endangered my family.” Another wrote, “My lane assistance stopped working properly, but the dealer says my VIN is not included in the recall.”

Top Problem #3: Electronic Warning Messages

Another frequent concern involves random warning alerts related to the audio and safety notification systems.

  • Owners report seeing messages like “Audible Warning & Notifications Unavailable” which disables system chimes such as seatbelt reminders and lane departure alerts.
  • These warnings often self-correct after a restart but then reappear unpredictably.
  • Dealerships have indicated this is a software problem that may require infotainment updates.

A forum user noted, “The warning popped up randomly but the audio and infotainment still worked fine. It only prevented safety alert sounds, which worries me if I miss a critical beep.”

Top Problem #4: Infotainment System and Connectivity Issues

Connectivity bugs with Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth have also caused driver distraction and inconvenience.

  • Users experience frequent disconnection of Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth audio mid-drive.
  • Multiple USB cables were tested without improvement, suggesting faulty USB ports, wiring, or software bugs.
  • Disconnections typically occur with bumps or rough roads, but sometimes happen without any apparent trigger.

One owner shared, “My phone disconnects multiple times during a drive, making it hard to safely use navigation. It seems like a loose USB port or infotainment defect.” Another described, “Bluetooth drops mid-drive even without using CarPlay. It feels like a hardware or software failure.”
