2024-2026 GM Telematics Control Module Problems Investigation
Class Action Investigation

Lemberg Law is launching a class action investigation into a Telematics Control Module defect affecting 2024, 2025, and 2026 General Motors vehicles across multiple brands. The defect causes the OnStar module to fail, disabling emergency calling, automatic crash response, GPS navigation, remote app functions, and in some cases draining the 12V battery to the point where the vehicle will not start or stalls while driving.
I’m Sergei Lemberg, a consumer protection attorney who has spent more than two decades representing vehicle owners in lemon law cases. This investigation stands out for two reasons. First, the scope. This is not one model or one brand. This is Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC, across dozens of models and multiple model years, all sharing the same failing module. Second, GM’s own service update acknowledges the module can enter what it calls an “unrecoverable state.” That phrase appears in GM’s own dealer documentation. That warranted a closer look.
So I pulled the complaints and the GM filings. I’ve included my research and source material below.

What’s the Problem with the GM Telematics Control Module?
On 2024, 2025, and 2026 GM vehicles, the K73 Telematics Control Module can fail and enter what GM’s own documentation describes as an “unrecoverable state.” A particularly troubling detail: the OnStar LED may remain green while the safety functions are actually dead, giving owners no visible indication that anything is wrong.
Owners report the same symptoms:
- OnStar stops working, including emergency calling and Automatic Crash Response
- GPS shows false location, sometimes miles away from actual position
- Navigation, Super Cruise, and heads-up speed limit display fed incorrect data
- Remote app functions including lock, unlock, and remote start stop working
- 12V battery drains parasitically, causing no-start or stall while driving
- OnStar LED shows green while system is actually non-functional
- Issue begins intermittently and progresses to complete module failure
- Replacement parts on national backorder with no confirmed availability date
Which Vehicles Are Involved?
Based on GM’s Service Update N262547330 and owner complaints, this investigation currently focuses on the following vehicles equipped with the K73 Telematics Control Module:
- 2025-2026 Buick Enclave
- 2025 Cadillac Celestiq
- 2025-2026 Cadillac CT5
- 2024-2026 Cadillac Lyriq
- 2025-2026 Cadillac Optiq
- 2026 Cadillac Vistiq
- 2024-2025 Cadillac XT4
- 2024-2026 Chevrolet Blazer EV
- 2026 Chevrolet Corvette
- 2025-2026 Chevrolet Equinox
- 2024-2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV
- 2025-2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV
- 2025-2026 Chevrolet Traverse
- 2025-2026 GMC Acadia
- 2025-2026 GMC Sierra EV
- 2025-2026 GMC Terrain
What are Owners Experiencing?
Here are a few complaints I found in my research that highlight this issue:
“Vehicle telematics module defect across the board that deactivates safety features from Onstar in case of an accident. GPS and Internet connection lost.”
“The vehicle had a fault in its GPS and it also had no communication with emergency assistance. This also caused battery problems that generated on two occasions that the vehicle did not start”
“Telematics unit in my Chevrolet equinox EV 2025 has failed. GPS/navigation/wifi does not work anymore. Calls to onStar for collision data / support in emergencies also do not work anymore. Also, basic features on the myChevrolet app to unlock/lock the car do not work. This happened gradually over time. Around 6 months after owning the vehicle, the GPS unit would sometimes randomly turn on/off and show my current location 1-2 miles away from my actual location. Then around 9 months after owning the vehicle, the unit as a whole failed and the whole tablet doesn’t work anymore. The dealer initially claimed that it was an issue with my onStar plan, but it is actually an issue with the telematics unit that needs to be replaced. This is a very well known problem is searched online across all newer GM vehicles that depend on Onstar.”
GM’s Service Update N262547330
In May 2026, GM issued Service Update N262547330 acknowledging that the Telematics Control Module may enter an “unrecoverable state.” The update was revised twice within the same month, expanding the vehicle list each time. Key points:
- The prescribed remedy is reprogramming the module, which may require multiple programming events
- If the module cannot connect to OnStar at all, it must be physically replaced
- Replacement modules are on restriction and must be obtained through an Electronic Service Center
- Dealers are instructed to flag potential buybacks if parts are backordered
- GM classifies this as a service update, not a safety recall. Owners are not automatically notified
- GM also issued OTA update N25-252332 to fix connectivity losses, but owners whose modules have already failed cannot receive OTA updates as the module itself is non-functional
Is There a Recall?
At this time, there is no formal safety recall covering the Telematics Control Module defect across affected GM vehicles.
GM has addressed the issue through Service Update N262547330 and OTA updates, but these are not recalls. No federal investigation has been opened by NHTSA at this time.
What Can You Do?
If you own one of the affected GM vehicles and have experienced OnStar failure, GPS problems, battery drain, or stalling, here are the steps to take:
- Document every symptom with dates, mileage, and conditions.
- Ask your dealer to check whether Service Update N262547330 applies to your vehicle and whether it has been completed.
- Save all repair orders and service invoices.
- File a complaint with NHTSA at www.nhtsa.gov. The volume of complaints filed can support a federal investigation.
Free Case Evaluation
A defective module that disables emergency calling, drains your battery, and feeds your navigation system false data is not a minor inconvenience. If you own one of the affected Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, or GMC vehicles and have been living with this problem, you may have more options than you think.
We will evaluate your situation at no cost and with no obligation. Our firm works on a contingency-fee basis. You do not pay legal fees unless a recovery is obtained.
