2022 Subaru Forester Problems and Top Complaints – Is Your Car A Lemon?

Electrical system and engine issues are among the top complaints received from vehicle owners

The 2022 Subaru Forester includes standard all-wheel drive and features to carve a new path. In fact, the automaker claims it is “the SUV for all you love.” However, customers would prefer if the car had a functioning electrical system, reliable engine and smooth-shifting powertrain, all of which would elevate the experience more.

Don’t be stuck with a lemon. You have legal rights to cash, return or buyback.

The law makes Subaru pay legal fees.

Problems with the Electrical System

A properly-running electrical system can change the entire drive, just as a defective one can destroy the time on the road. Sadly, prestigious auto publications seem to vote on the latter with the Forester.

The KBB website says, “There are a couple of functions we usually turn off when we’re in a Forester. The lane-keeping assistance system is one of them. It sounds its warnings a little too soon. And the engine stop/restart function doesn’t save enough fuel to justify living with the thunk that occurs when the engine kicks back in.”

What’s to be expected from Subaru? After all the defects from the last few years, no one really expected that the electrical system would be in good working order for 2022. It wasn’t that long ago that class-action lawsuits existed because Subaru couldn’t even install windshields that held up to daily driving. There’s absolutely nothing “to love” about this Subaru model.

Problems with the Engine

To get a job done, the engine must be ready to get working. Yet, this is another source of pain according to the top reviews.

Car and Driver states, “Its middling flat-four engine delivers tepid acceleration that tempers its desirability…Key rivals such as the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4 offer similar traits, but both are offered with more powerful gasoline and hybrid powertrains that leave the Forester feeling underpowered by comparison.”

This engine simply can’t keep up with the competition, leaving the Forester in the dust. Plus, Subaru models aren’t cheap, making them a worse value overall when looking at some of the top options. While drivers are lagging behind other vehicles on the road, they are probably considering now is the time for an upgrade.

Problems with the Powertrain

The powertrain works hand-in-hand with the engine to ensure smooth delivery of the motor’s energy. With the Forester’s transmission, there are bound to be a lot of complaints coming down the pipeline.

KBB writers pointed out, “The automatic transmission is of the continuously variable variety. These tend to react slower to throttle inputs and can also drone annoyingly.”

It looks like Subaru should be preparing to deal with more issues as customers get behind the wheel. Just a few years back, the automaker dealt with customers that had unintended acceleration of the vehicle, so it’s safe to wonder if the same complaints will occur with these models. The surging of the power delivery can cause drivers to feel like they are in a rodeo, riding a bucking bronco. It’s certainly not in line with the reputation Subaru has attempted to build over the years, yet its reputation continues to go downhill because of the subpar equipment being used. The “SUV for all you love” must come from a different manufacturer.
