Many people don’t realize how vital the electrical system is to a car’s components. Unfortunately, the automaker didn’t specify a resolution for these drivers. Anyone driving this car might resort to old-school backing up that involves looking behind you while moving.

REAR TAILGATE REQUIRES MANUAL OPERATION TO OPEN, CLOSE, AND LOCK. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC LIFT GATE CONTROLS ON THE DRIVER DOOR AND ALSO BY SWIPING FOOT UNDER REAR BUMPER. I HAVE DOCUMENTED FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH THAT THE TAILGATE WILL NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. EACH TIME HOWEVER THAT I BRING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE TAILGATE WORKS PROPERLY. THE MECHANIC SAID IT IS PROBABLY THE ACTUATOR, BUT UNTIL I CAN BRING IT TO THEM WHEN ITS NOT WORKING THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THERE WAS ONE INSTANCE WERE THE TAILGATE WOULDNT LOCK EVEN WHEN MANUALLY OPERATED. I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE TAILGATE UNLOCKED AND OPENING WHEN I SLOWED DOWN. THE DEALER SALES PERSONNEL DID A TEMPORARY ADJUSTMENT BY TURNING THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF AND ADJUSTING THE SELECTION KNOB ON THE DRIVER DOOR. YOUR HELP HERE IS APPRECIATED. THE DEALERSHIP IS BEING VERY HELPFUL, BUT CAN ONLY FIX SOMETHING WHEN THEY VERIFY THAT THE ITEM NEEDS REPAIR.
It’s completely normal to expect your car engine to be strong and provide the power you need to move. When the engine isn’t working the way it was expected, it leads to confusion and creates safety concerns. That’s exactly what drivers of the 2017 Buick Envision find when they sit behind the wheel.
One owner took to Edmunds to voice some concerns. Read what they wrote. “Every time you come to a stop the engine stalls and dies. Now there is nothing wrong with the engine because someone at Buick though it would be a good idea to shut the engine down every time you come to a stop. They need to kick that guy to the curb. If you test drive the car when it’s very hot the AC will keep the engine running when you stop but when the heat lets up the car thinks you only need AC when your moving the darn thing stops running every time you stop. On some GM cars they put a button in so you could deactivate this annoying feature. I really do think the owner should have the option to take the car in and have the dealer reprogram the computer to deactivate the ENGINE AUTO STOP.”
While GM has remained quiet regarding the overwhelming complaints about this engine feature, they’ve had plenty to say about other engine issues. Service Bulletin #PIP5029H discusses the Malfunction Indicator Lamp, engine misfire, rough idle, no start and extended crank trouble. One of the possible fixes includes a valve and upper engine cleaning. While owners wait for something to change, they sit at lights and intersections wondering if the car will cut out. It’s probably causing them to feel like they are sitting behind the embarrassing beater they drove in the college years.

AT ABOUT 45-50MPH, IF CRUISING WITH ALMOST NO ACCELERATION, WHEN YOU DO ACCELERATE, YOU GET AN AWFUL RATTLE THAT SOUNDS AS THOUGH IT IS COMING FROM THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. IT IS STARTLING AND IN OF ITSELF DOESN’T SEEM TO BE A SAFETY ITEM EXCEPT IT STARTLES YOU
MAKES A SCRAPPING SOUND. DOESN’T MATTER IF YOUR GOING UP HILL, DOWNHILL, LEFT OR RIGHT. NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL DO IT. ALWAYS WHEN THE SPEED IS BETWEEN 45 & 55 MPH. THIS IS THE SECOND BUICK ENVISION THAT WAS REPURCHASED. SAME ISSUE WITH THE FIRST ONE. WORKED ON MANY TIMES BY GARAGE & EVEN A REP SENT FROM BUICK
When someone drives at night, they have a natural need to see the road. After all, if someone can’t see what’s happening in front of them, there is a huge risk for accident and injury. When the headlights don’t illuminate properly, it causes worry, stress and anxiety. That’s what Buick Envision owners go through on a daily basis.
One driver on the NHTSA website wrote, “The headlights on this vehicle are mostly inadequate. They fail to provide decent lighting beyond a short distance in front of the vehicle. The fog lights improve the situation, but when using high beams you’d have better luck seeing ahead by putting a flashlight out the window. MY 2017 Encore with the pan reflective halogen lights are much more effective than those more expensive ‘Terminator’ style headlights. (The lights look like terminator eyes). This presents a major safety concern because you cannot see far enough in front of you to see what is ahead – and high beams are worse than low beams with fog lights.”
Sadly, Buick doesn’t address this concern in their communications. Instead, they spend time talking about lamp condensation and replacement. It sounds like the automaker has some of their priorities backward when it comes to what should be fixed first.
When you consider that a majority of Buick owners throughout the years is the older generation, you would think that GM wouldn’t skimp on the lighting. As a person gets older, it becomes more difficult to see as it is; then to contend with inadequate headlights is downright dangerous. When you combine this with the faulty backup camera and scary engine problems, GM created a disaster waiting to happen. With these headlights, you don’t need to be a part of the older generation to wonder if something is wrong with your eyes.

THE INTERIOR LIGHTING FOR THE DASH/RADIO/BACKUP CAMERA/NAV SCREEN ARE ALL DIMMED PREMATURELY IN THE EVENING. YOU’LL ENTER A SHADY AREA AND WHILE STILL VERY BRIGHT OUTSIDE, THE SCREEN DIMS AND ALL OF THE DASH LIGHTS DIM TO THE POINT OF BEING UNUSABLE – ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. SAFETY ISSUE ON BACKUP CAMERA, OR IF TRYING TO VIEW NAV SCREEN AND NEXT TURNS, YOU ARE DRIVING BLIND BECAUSE THE SCREEN IS TOO DARK TO SEE ANYTHING.
THE HEADLIGHT ILLUMINATION ON THE 2017 BUICK ENVISION OR INADEQUATE. THEY ARE DIM AND LACK DISTANCE PROJECTION EVEN ON BRIGHT. WE CAN BARELY SEE TO GET UP AND DOWN THE HILL OF OUR DRIVEWAY. WE DO NOT DRIVE AT NIGHT UNLESS WE KNOW THE ROAD WELL. THE HEADLIGHTS SHOULD BE RECALLED BECAUSE THEY WILL CAUSE ACCIDENTS AND THERE WILL BE LAWSUITS.
