Is there a problem with the hydraulic side slides in the Tiffin Allegro Open Road?

Yes, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received several consumer complaints that report the side slides creeping out while they are driving on the road. Even though some complaints state that dealers are aware of the issue, these complainants say they are told that there isn’t a fix.

What Problems are Tiffin Allegro Open Road Owners Experiencing?

All the 2022 Tiffin Allegro Open Road recreational vehicle (RV) owner complaints to NHTSA describe how the hydraulic slides creep out while they are driving. Sometimes the movement pushes and bends the driver’s seat.

An owner from Virginia States:

“Both the passenger side and driver’s side ‘slide’ creep out about 3″ to 6″. This happens when RV is parked as well as traveling. On our way back from Hilton Head Island, SC to Williamsburg, VA I had to stop 4 times to pull the slides back in. They creeped out at least 6″! I have taken our Tiffin to the selling dealer several times so they can repair this issue. I am told that both Tiffin and Lippert (who makes the hydraulic system) are aware of the issue but there is not a fix at this time. Our selling dealer has replaced (under warranty) the hydraulic pump, the solenoid valves, and hydraulic rams but the issue is still present.”

An owner from Los Angeles filed a complaints on the NHTSA website stating:

“The 2022 Open Road RV has hydraulic slides and jacks manufactured by Lippert (owned by LCI). Since taking delivery of the RV in August 2021 we have had issues with the hydraulic slide ‘creeping out’. This means that when the slide is closed, it should stay closed until you extend it. The slide extends on its own – even while driving down the highway.

“We are at the Tiffin RV Service Center to have the problem resolved. I was told by the Tiffin technician that there is currently no fix for the problem and that the Lippert engineers are working on it. I called Lippert customer service and they gave me a case number and told me to have the service technician call them. They offered no solution to the problem. The slides opening on their own while driving down the road is hazardous to us and other vehicles on the road.”

Other owners have similar complaints:

“The Lippert Hydraulic slides on the driver and passenger side will open while going down the road and/or expressway… They have not come up with a fix as of yet… This issue has become a safety concern which could cause a serious accident and lead to death while traveling.”

“The Lippert slides which are normally expanded for use when the vehicle is parked for camping and then retracted when driving, move out and expand on their own while the motorhome is being driven down the road and when it is just parked in storage. Our motorhome has been in the Tiffin repair shop to address the defective slide in February. We were told it was repaired and the issue continued after coming to pick up the vehicle on March 20 with the slide expanding outward about 6 inches in just a few hours. This presents a safety issue when the vehicle is driven as the slide will expand on its own with the driver having no way to control the expansion and keep the slide from moving outward on its own…”

Interestingly, My nephew just purchased a 2022 Tiffin Allegro Bus that has a very similar issue. When the drivers side front slide room is retracted it creeps out up to approx 3″. We have called Tiffin and they believe it is a bad solenoid. They are in the process of sending us one to install. I have seen this issue on other Allegro Buses also. A solenoid did fix those issues.
