Is American Collection Services a scam?

They’re legit. American Collection Services has been in the collections business for 15 years. The company was originally started on September 2nd, 2005 and opened its Better Business Bureau account on the same date. American Collection Services has not been accredited by the BBB, however it has received an “A+” rating from the BBB. Due to the company’s years in service and its outstanding rating from the BBB, it is clear that this business is not a scam. Therefore, the debt which you may have been contacted about is real, and needs to be dealt with. Though it is necessary to resolve this discrepancy, it is still possible that American Collection Services may be in violation of the FDCPA. While it is important that you do not ignore the need to resolve your alleged debt with American Collection Services, as this could potentially harm your credit and ability to take out future loans, be wary of any suspicious activity where the company could potentially be violating the FDCPA.

According to the collection company’s website, American Collection Services explains that, “American Collections Services has one simple goal…exceeding our clients needs and expectations. We believe it’s our responsibility to transcend your expectations, anticipate error prevention procedures, and ensure that you are satisfied with our services. Our staff of highly trained credit specialists solely focus on providing highly effective recovery and excellent customer service”. Some complainants feel as though they were not provided this so called “excellent customer service”. American Collection Services is also a part of ACA International, the HFMA, and NPECA.

Lastly, the collections company has an employee base of 5 and an annual revenue of $1 million, according to ZoomInfo.com. The leadership of American Collection Servies according to the BBB consists of Associate Louis Littlejohn.

Who does American Collection Services collect for?

American Collection Services does not explain who they specifically collect for or which area of collections they specialize in. Because of this it is very important that as a consumer you confirm with the collections company about what debt is specifically owed and to whom. Inquiring as soon as possible is the smartest move to make, and if you feel as though this company has breached their FDCPA rights be sure to contact an attorney to help you file a lawsuit.
