Is There a Problem with the Wiper Recall?
Multiple owners of 2021 Ford Expedition SUVs are complaining that the parts needed for dealerships to replace the windshield wipers specified in the recall are not available.
None of the complainants has experienced a problem with their wipers. Generally, they state that the VIN tool confirms parts aren’t available. However, one complaint states that the dealer’s service manager would not repair his wipers because they weren’t broken.

Reasons for the Windshield Wiper Recall
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety recall report issued to the on April 14, 2022, the front windshield wiper arms are faulty. They state that:
“Worn wiper arm spline tooling core inserts at the supplier resulted in insufficient spline tooth height, which can cause the arm attachment to strip when used with certain wiper motors with higher torque.”
In addition to 2020-2021 Ford Expedition SUVs and 2020-2021 Lincoln Navigator SUVs, 2020-2021 Ford F-150 and 2020-2022 Ford F-Super duty pickup trucks are also affected. In total, Ford says that as many as 652,996 vehicles may be involved. Of these, 95,915 are Ford Expeditions and 19,008 are Lincoln Navigators.
They estimate that only 1% have the defect, but, of course, it’s impossible to know which ones these are.
Because of the defect and the safety risk it creates, Ford has told owners to take their vehicles to Ford or Lincoln dealers to have both front windshield wiper arms replaced. Dealers will not charge for the service and they will be reimbursed by Ford.
What Problems are Owners Experiencing with the Wiper Recall?
All complaints state that 2021 Ford Expedition owners received notification of the recall. But they are told that the parts needed for the recall are not available. In most cases, the complaints state that the VIN tool confirms the parts aren’t available. They all feel that the manufacturer has exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs.
According to the safety recall report, dealers were to be notified of the recall on April 19, 2022. Owners were to be notified between May 23 and May 27. The report also states that the “ending date for reimbursement eligibility is estimated to be June 6, 2022.” So, presumably, all recall repairs should have been completed by this time.
An Owner from Arizona States:
“On 5/20/2022 I contacted my local dealership regarding recall 22V250 to discuss getting this issue repaired. I was scheduled (for) an appointment on 6/16/2022 at 7:40 a.m. On 6/15/2022 I was told by the dealership that they were not going to repair my vehicle because I was not having any issues with it and I had to wait until there was a problem.
“When I made the appointment on 5/20/22 I was told that they would be able to repair it even if it was not broken and they would get the part ordered. I was told yesterday by the service manager that they had three parts in but they belonged to someone else and that since mine was not broken they could not fix it.”
