Top Problem #1: Hybrid Propulsion System Failures

I found that hybrid system failures are the most commonly issue reported among Camry owners. The defect involves an improperly torqued bolt inside the hybrid inverter assembly, leading to sudden power loss or even fire risk.

Common symptoms include:

• “Hybrid System Malfunction” warning displayed on the dashboard

  “While driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly decelerated, with an audible beeping alarm activated and the check engine warning light illuminated. The message ‘Hybrid System Malfunction’ was displayed.”

Toyota issued a safety recall (NHTSA Campaign 25V869000) regarding this issue, confirming the defect’s seriousness. Unfortunately, a permanent remedy is delayed until at least the first quarter of 2026, leaving many vehicle owners exposed.

A harrowing owner report states:

  “My Camry suddenly accelerated when pulling into a handicap space, Suddenly the vehicle jumped the concrete barrier and sidewalk and hit a building. The airbags did not deploy and the seat belts came off as normal. The building was not damaged but my wife sustained a shoulder injury and whiplash.”
