Is TRS Recovery Services a scam?

They’re legit. According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) TRS Recovery Services, Inc. was originally incorporated in Colorado in 1992, then started locally in Texas in 1995. The BBB established a profile page for TRS in 2011. TRS Recovery Services is listed as a collection agency. Buzzfile estimates TRS’s annual revenue at just over $400,000 and the size of its headquarters staff at 5 people.

According to its website, TRS Recovery Services is “is a premier provider of collection services across varied market segments…with approximately 200 employees to support these services on an inbound and outbound call basis.” TRS is “dedicated to satisfying the needs of its customers…and fostering the development of long-term, profitable business relationships with…customers…employees, and…vendors.”

Who does TRS Recovery Services collect for?

TRS Recovery Services draws clients from many different consumer-oriented businesses, including “retailers, grocers, and financial institutions.” TRS offers collection services that include treating consumers “with respect and care during the collection/resolution process.” They also have made available several payment options, including “cash, credit card, money order, check, EFT, debit card, Western Union and MoneyGram money transfer services, web payments, live operator assistance, and IVR technology.” TRS’s collection staff is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Can TRS Recovery Services Sue Me or Garnish My Wages?

It is illegal for a debt collector to make empty threats to sue you or garnish your wages. It is also unlikely TRS would sue you for a debt you may not owe or they cannot validate. However, debt collection agencies are known to have summoned debtors to court and garnish wages after a default judgement. Contacting an attorney BEFORE this could possibly happen would be a smart move. We’ve helped thousands of consumers fight back against unscrupulous debt collection harassers. Can you help me file a No Fee Lawsuit against TRS Recovery Services?

Absolutely.  You can sue a debt collector. Here is a Sample Complaint:

In 2017 a New York woman claimed in a proposed class action that TRS Recovery Services Inc. unlawfully failed to make clear in a collection notice that the total debt amount due was accruing interest and fees. The woman claimed the initial communication she received from the defendant stated that $4.84 was the total amount due for payment. The next communication she received said she owed $6.98, with a third notice somehow claiming $5.72 was owed. A fourth communication pegged the amount due at $8.49, the suit claims.

Under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), a debt collector has an obligation to not only convey the amount of debt owed, but to do so clearly. In the plaintiff’s situation, the case alleges, the unsophisticated consumer may be left unsure as to exactly how much is owed.

Also, the BBB has posted the following Alert on TRS’s profile page:

“Since December of 2014, the BBB Houston office began receiving several complaints that…exhibit… the following pattern:

“According to consumers’ disputes, it has been alleged that TRS Recovery is declining consumer transactions upon checkout.  The complaints reviewed state the consumers have reached out to TRS Recovery with their concerns. However, when attempting to contact the company there are long hold times and consumers are rarely able to speak to a live representative.  Upon being able to speak with someone about collection concerns, they are met with rude customer service representatives. Such concerns…include consumers’ having made a purchase with Amazon, the payment will clear … a consumer’s account, and the…consumer will later receive a notice from TRS Recovery Systems stating items were unpaid and now assigned to them for collections.  Consumers are also stating TRS Recovery Systems has attempted to process unauthorized automatic withdrawals of check amounts, … causing multiple charges from their banks.

“The company TRS would like you to know: TRS Recovery Services, Inc. wants our subscribers and their customers to know that we are committed to improving our customer service experience.”

Most of the complaints about TRS that have been submitted to the BBB are posted without any details available for public viewing. However, in January 2016, a complainant indicated that he had ordered a book from a 3rd party seller on the website for Amazon, Inc. He indicated that the transaction went through smoothly and that he received the book, but he was notified later that the payment did not go through. The complainant indicated his belief that the problem resulted from his having selected a closed checking account from the banking information stored on Amazon’s servers, which he only found out about when he“received a debt collection letter in the mail from TRS…only 10 days after the original transaction, stating that …he owed the original purchase price ($13.98) plus a $25 returned check fee.” The complainant had contacted the seller, who told him they weren’t “even aware that the payment had not been completed,” and another vendor involved in the transaction said they had “sent… him an email about the payment not going through, but the email never reached” him. He also expressed uncertainty about how TRS “learned about this transaction,” speculating whether they had intercepted his email communication.

TRS Recovery Services Calling You?

Federal laws protect you. The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) regulates the behavior of collection agencies by prohibiting actions such as the use of abusive or threatening language; harassment; or the use of false or misleading information to collect a debt. The FCRA regulates how collection agencies and creditors report delinquent debts to credit reporting agencies. Additional consumer protection laws include the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA).

Can I sue TRS for harassment?

Yes. If you want to enforce your rights, or recover money for violations — you need to sue. Federal laws provide individuals like you with a means to seek monetary damages in court. For example, the FDCPA allows consumers who have been violated to recover damages of up to $1,000, plus attorney fees and court costs.

My bank notified me by email that there were some unauthorized-looking withdrawals from my account and to contact them. I did the next day. I was hacked $17,000. from my credit card. It was deposited into my checking account then the hacker started spending it to a gambling site. Both accounts were closed the very next day. I filed an FBI report. Now TRS recovery is trying to collect. Some of their figures are duplicated. And some don’t match. My Frued bank department felt that it was part of the frued and not to answer but I just can’t wait . and feel I need to respond. I understand TRS recovery is hard to deal with. I am in my 70s and my husband is blind and in his 80s. and in poor health. What do I do? We have excellent credit and this can ruin us.

I am having the same issues with Amazon and tsr . They called me and were extremely rude and said why don’t you just pay your bills and you wouldn’t have to deal with us . Excuse me ? I paid my Amazon order . I don’t know anyone that has ever said oh yeah Amazon sent me my order and I didn’t pay them. Amazon does not send order till paid and if there’s not enough money in your bank account they don’t get paid and your order does not ship . I have my proof however Amazon is stating tsr contacted my financial institute and they state different I asked for proof they this was in fact stated for. My institute and yet to receive anything . I get the ceo is hurting for money after his ex took half but they won’t be getting the money he lost from me . I reached out to the sellers on Amazon and they all received payment so something isn’t adding up here and Amazon better get it together I’m going forward with a lawsuit .

I saw an advertisement for CBD oil and followed the website through the steps it carried me. It said this was a free trial, all I had to do was pay the $6.95 shipping. So I took them up on the free offer. A couple of weeks later I received a package with the CBD oil and another bottle of capsules, which was not part of the free trial I had signed up for. I’ve never taken the cbd oil nor the capsules because of the extra item that was sent with the cbd oil. I figured there was something fishy about this. I waited another two weeks and I received an email from TRS Limited- Life CBD company telling me I owed them $119.97. Navy Federal Credit Union contacted me to ask if I had made the charge. I told them that I hadn’t. They cancelled my card and issued me a new one. I e-mailed the company back and told them that my credit card had been hacked and Navy Federal had cancelled the card. I heard no more about it until I received a letter from National Medical Administrators, Inc. collection agency wanting me to pay this bogus charge.
This is obviously a scam. I do not want any more letters from them and I don’t want this affecting my credit record, either.
I don’t know what to do, now. Do I have to sue them to get this cleared up? I don’t want money; I just want them to stop this scam and leave me and my credit record alone.

I had bad credit for more than 4 years, and recently I was encouraged by an article i read on a credit board to go to firewallbreachexpertgmailcom for assistance. Firewall breach expert made something that once seemed so incomprehensible to me, seem so easy. I love that they did a great job in cleaning my credit files. I am the happiest man alive.

I had to cancel my Debit and Credit Cards due to fraud in July. My boyfriend had COVID at the time and we were in quarantine, so I decided to use my accounting and routing info on Amazon to purchase groceries and some supplies for my kitty.

It wasn’t too long after that I received my initial TRS Recovery Services email from Amazon. Apparently there was an issue of payment, and got charged fees that I needed to pay TRS Recovery Services.

Not only was my Amazon account blocked me from making purchases until I paid the TRS Recovery Services fees, I couldn’t even pay the fees until my new Debit and Credit Card came in the mail to activate. When the cards arrived, I activated them and called TRS Services to pay the fees.

I had thought about it later with a clear head:
It did not make ANY sense to me that I had to pay fees for orders I didn’t receive, and also there was more than a sufficient amount of funds to cover the Amazon purchases I made!

So I decided to take action. Of course, I got stuck in a loop of calling Amazon telling me to contact TRS Recovery Services, TRS Recovery services transferring me to TELECHECK, back to TRS Recovery Services, TRS telling me to contact Amazon – each telling them this story in detail.

I also tried to fill out the TRS Recovery Services dispute form on their website, and the site does not let you submit after entering your information and/or any documentation – I attempted this multiple times, and it does not work.

So eventually I got my bank involved, in which they refunded the fees charged to my account. I showed this to Amazon, and my account was then unblocked.

I was so grateful for it to be over – except for that it wasn’t.

I made a purchase on Amazon not too long ago, and then received another TRS Recovery Services email about the SAME CHARGES that were already taken care of, and my Amazon account was blocked again.

I got my bank involved again to assist me in filing a dispute on my behalf, in which was resolved in my favor due to lack of communication from TRS Recovery Services. SHOCKING because they contact me EVERY DAY!

I haven’t purchased anything from that Amazon account since, and cancelled my Amazon Prime Membership, but TRS is continuously sending me emails. I reached out to Amazon to let them know I was happy to provide any documentation to prove the dispute was resolved, and to have them close my Amazon account.

When they sent me the ‘Close Amazon account’ email yesterday, I confirmed, and I was supposed to receive an email that my account had been closed.

Guess who sent over ANOTHER email this morning?!

I’m literally so peeved about this. Seriously considering a class action lawsuit.

TRS Recovery Services Inc, is trying to say I owe $50.00 returned check fee.I donot even have a checking account nor even bank at Wells Fargo Bank. One check was written at a Wal-Mart in Mississippi. The other one was written at an Office Depot store in Virginia.I have never, ever been to either one of these States.I leave in California. It’s seems kind of strange each time this has happened I was in Wal-Mart.I feel there’s a connection between each one of these transactions taking place. That Wal-Mart employers have something too do with this SCAM they have going on with TRS Recovery Services Inc making money for themselves through the consumers. This needs to stop and there needs to be an investigation made between Wal-Mart and TRS Recovery Services Inc,.They have a SCAM going on!!!

  • Elias l

Sad, that Amazon closed a deal with these scammers, they are taking advantage of Amazon’s “banking account” payment options….which appear to be flawed, because transactions appear to be executed smoothly and within 10 days of purchase, Amazon customer is served with letter from post office of bad check and services fees owed. Since this is a business account, most business would just pay the invoice without a second thought. Brillant evil scam.

I was notified that my credit scored dropped points on Experian. I reviewed credit report. There is a report on my credit record that says I failed to pay a payment in August of 2018. I looked back at my bank statement and for a fact I paid a payment. The 800 # provided on the bank statement to who I paid $ to is TRS recovery. I called the State of Mi because the bank statement said they were the collector. The state said they have no such record that I owe what is on my credit record. I filed a dispute with Experian. How can you help me? I called my credit union and they cannot help. They said to follow thru with the dispute thru credit bureau.

I received a letter from TRS indicating that I stopped payment on a check to Walmart. I had not been to any Walmart on that day or near that day. I tried to contact the TRS department but it only allows you to go on the website to dispute any claims and on the claim for it asks for your bank account number. So in order to dispute a claim you have to put this information. I will not be putting my personal information and would rather speak to somebody regarding this collection debt but thats not an option. I feel like this is a scam, and if it is not then they need to change the way they handle their clients debts.

  • Sara

    Hi Rita,
I have the exactly the same experience as yours and TRS Services send me the letter (instead of calls) to pay the hacked amount. I first talked to my bank and told them about it because my bank is the only leak to TRS of my info (name, address, hacked amount) that I could think of. My bank investigated but not much help but told me to contact TRS because ignoring the letter jeopardize my credit history. So I called their 800 number ((800) 366-1048) does not connect, just music is playing….. And my phone indicates the number is a “scam”!

Even knowing that they don’t sound legitimate, I worry about my credit history affected by this in any ways…

About 3 months ago, my checking acct. was hacked, about $700 , was charged to my account. My bank, closed that acct. and I opened a new one, my bank credited my new acct. with hacked charges……which included $184.88 charged to AMAZON MARKETPLACE. NOW TRS RECOVERY SERVICES IS WANTING ME TO PAY THEM the $184.88. Please help me understand what I must do. Thank you.
