Trouble Charging Your Polestar 3? Here’s What’s Happening

Class Action Investigation

2025 Polestar 3 Charging issue

Lemberg Law is investigating charging failures in the 2025 Polestar 3. Several owners have reported that their vehicles refuse to charge at home, charge sporadically, or damage charging hardware. Some also experience significantly slower charging speeds with DC fast charging.

Despite these issues, Polestar has not published a recall so far. There are, however, several Polestar Delivery Actions (DP1035, DP1037, DP1038) addressing software issues in key charging and power modules, suggesting that Polestar is aware of potential electrical system vulnerabilities. If your Polestar 3 is experiencing charging failures, we’d like to hear about it.

What’s Going on with Polestar 3 Charging?

Polestar 3 owners are reporting critical faults in charging system, mainly with Level 2 home charger charging. There are users receiving intermittent error messages “Charging system fault” or “Charging interrupted,” whereas others find that the vehicle is charging only a fraction of regular speed.

Issues Reported by Owners

  • Onboard AC Charger Failures – Some Polestar 3 owners say their vehicles have completely stopped charging on Level 2 AC chargers, with errors warning that charging is “not possible”. One driver, who had only 3,400 miles on their vehicle, was told by their dealer that the replacement parts were on backorder.
  • Charging Fails to Initialize After Using DC Fast Charging – Several owners reported that their vehicles charged normally at home until they used public DC fast chargers during a road trip. Afterward, they found that their Polestar 3s would no longer charge on Level 2 home chargers, often getting stuck at 1 kW before displaying an “Initializing” message. One owner tried resetting their system, but the issue persisted. They confirmed their home charger was not the problem by testing it with a loaner Polestar 2 from the dealership, which charged without issues.
  • Charging Equipment Damage – A particularly troubling report came from an owner who plugged in their brand-new Polestar 3 for the first time—only for it to damage their home charger. Two days later, the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership for repairs.
  • Out for Service – Another owner noted that their Polestar 3 spent nearly a month in the service shop after just two weeks of ownership. The Polestar dealership in that case did provide a loaner vehicle

Service Bulletins

Polestar issued three service bulletins (DP1035, DP1037, DP1038) for the 2025 Polestar 3, addressing software flaws in the High to Low Voltage Converter Module (HLCM) and Grid Communication Charging Control (GCCC)—both critical to charging.

  • DP1035: Fixes an HLCM software bug that could cause hardware damage during updates
  • DP1037: Requires a GCCC reload before Pre-Delivery Software (PDS) to prevent failures
  • DP1038: Mandates both HLCM and GCCC reloads before PDS to avoid system issues.
