Nissan Rogue Rear Window Shattering

Class Action Investigation

Updated on Author: Sergei Lemberg

2025 Nissan Rogue

Owners of the 2025 Nissan Rogue are reporting incidents of rear window glass breaking without warning. Complaints describe situations where the back glass shattered immediately after closing a door or hatch, while parked, or during normal driving.

Many reports indicate that the glass failure occurred at low mileage and without any visible impact from outside objects.

Why Are Rogue Rear Windshield Exploding?

Drivers have reported a consistent set of issues, including:

  • Rear window shattering after closing a door or hatch
  • Glass breaking while the vehicle was parked
  • A loud pop or cracking sound followed by total glass failure
  • Possible connection to the rear defroster
  • Glass fragments scattered inside the vehicle

In several cases, owners stated that temperature and weather conditions were normal. Some noted that the break appeared to start from the edges of the glass. The pattern of reports suggests a potential defect in the rear window assembly or installation process.

Owner Quotes

“After hitting the button to close my back hatch, my boyfriend noticed that the window was cracking from the upper left corner. When nearly fully closed, the window spontaneously shattered.”

“I got into my car and closed the door and pushed the start button and my back window blew out. It was not hit by anything and sitting in front of my office and had not driven all day since I got there.”

“I turned on the rear defrost feature for the first time on my brand new car and the window busted out.”

“While my Nissan Rouge was sitting out in a parking lot the rear windshield shattered. The temperatures were not below freezing and did not go above 60°F. The low temperature was 45°F. There was no foul play or any evidence of damage to the rest of the vehicle. Just the windshield shattered.”

“The vehicle had been parked for 10 hours while I was at work. I got in the vehicle and shut the door and the back glass shattered. I had security pull up the camera footage of the area my vehicle was parked and no one tampered with it. “

Dealer and Nissan Response

According to complaints, some dealerships have replaced the glass under warranty, while others attributed the damage to outside impact. Owners report limited information from Nissan regarding the cause of the problem.

As of now, there is no recall or service bulletin addressing this issue.
