What is EmployeeScreenIQ?
EmployeeScreenIQ, formerly known as Background Information Services, started business in 1999. Now, as a subsidiary of SterlingBackcheck (also known as Sterling Talent Solutions), the company boasts that it has more than 3,000 clients, ranging from small businesses to Fortune 100 companies. They offer three packages, “Highlights,” “Insights,” and “Diligence,” that provide services ranging from a criminal database search to a motor vehicle record report to a seven-year employment history. EmployeeScreenIQ serves a number of different industries, including the financial services, insurance, transportation, healthcare, retail, and technology sectors.
Consumers can go online and request a copy of their employment screening report.
It is routine for an employer to want to run a background check on a prospective employee. It’s also common to run a credit check on employees being considered for promotion to sensitive positions. However, an employer can’t go snooping around your history without your permission, and can’t deny you employment based on your credit report without telling you about it.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) protects your rights as they related to credit reporting and background checks. If a company that conducts background checks provides false information or a report with errors, you do have recourse. Under the FCRA, you are entitled to take to court companies that violate the law. If you sue and win, you could recover actual damages, statutory damages, and court costs and attorney fees. That fee-shifting provision is why a consumer law attorney typically won’t charge you for representation.

What Our Clients are Saying
“As we discussed on the telephone earlier today, this settlement is perfectly acceptable to me. I want to thank you and all your cohorts at Lemberg Law for a job handled so professionally. Please let Amy, the first person who contacted me from Lemberg, know how much I appreciate her efforts, kindness, and professionalism.”
“Thank you so much for handling my case. In the past, I didn’t trust attorneys. I had bad experiences and didn’t believe lawyers fought for you anymore. You have restored my faith. You took on my case, never asked for a retainer, and you won without ever having met me. Thank you.”
