Today, Lemberg Law announced the “Lemberg Law Stop Collector Scholarship,” which will award $1,000 to a high school senior or rising senior, entering college freshman, or college student. The scholarship will be awarded to the student who writes the best 400- to 600-word essay on one aspect of debt collection.

According to Sergei Lemberg, who has been named the “most active” consumer attorney for three years in a row by debt collection industry insider WebRecon, “Americans have over $1 trillion in student debt. Students shouldn’t have to take on the burden of enormous debt in order to obtain the education they so richly deserve.”

Lemberg said that those who have student loan debt are often on the receiving end of illegal debt collection calls. “We hope to shine a light on the debt collection industry while doing our part to help a student pay for college.”

The deadline for the scholarship is September 30, 2015.
