Is ECSI a scam?

They’re legit. ECSI is real company, and you should not choose to ignore the debt which they may have contacted you about. According to the company’s BBB page, ECSI has practiced collections for roughly 49 years. The business was incorporated on January 1st, 1972 and its BBB file was opened on September 1st, 1991. Though ECSI has not been accredited by the Better Business Bureau, the company has received an impressive “A+” rating from the BBB. It is due to the company’s many years of experience, and its outstanding rating from the BBB that ECSI can be considered a real, legitimate business. Consumers should be aware that ECSI is not a scam.

According to the ECSI website, the company claims that they have the highest rated Client Support and Customer Service Teams in the industry and have a client base of more than 1,500. Additionally, the company states that, “ECSI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Global Payments Inc. ECSI is a part of the Education Solutions division which also includes TouchNet, School Solutions, and Greater Giving”. Lastly, According to dnb.com the company has an employee base of 125, and revenue of $36.44 million. The leadership of the collections company is headed by Vice President and General Manager Eric Ives.

Remember that while it is important that you do not ignore the need to resolve your alleged debt with ECSI, as this could potentially harm your credit and ability to take out future loans, be wary of any suspicious activity where the company could potentially be violating the FDCPA. With that being said, remember that the debt which you may have been contacted about is real, and needs to be dealt with.

Who does ECSI collect for?

ECSI is known as a “trusted partner in higher education”, according to the collections company’s website. Therefore, the debt which you may have been contacted about is likely due to tuition payment fees. Though this is likely the case, it is still important that as a consumer you confirm with the collections company about what debt is specifically owed and to whom. Inquiring as soon as possible is the smartest move to make, and if you feel as though this company has breached their FDCPA rights be sure to contact an attorney to help you file a lawsuit.

Can ECSI Sue Me or Garnish My Wages?

It is illegal for collections companies to make empty threats to sue you or garnish your wages. If ECSI cannot verify your debt or you may not owe said debt, they will likely choose not to sue. However, like all debt collection companies, ECSI can still summon debtors to court and garnish wages after a default judgement. Flip the script and hire legal aid to solve the discrepancy if you find that ECSI may have violated the FDCPA. It is wisest to contact an attorney preemptively to ensure the safety of your assets and rights. Lemberg Law has helped thousands of consumers fight back against these cases of fraudulent collection practices. Call us today to find out how we can help you resolve this issue.

Can you help me file a No Fee Lawsuit against ECSI?

Absolutely. You can sue a debt collector. Here is a sample complaint:

A complainant believes that, “ECSI reported an account to credit bureaus for a student loan that was consolidated after they provided an outdated quote”. This account should have been corrected after consolidation, but was never reported to the new servicer. The complainant explains that this collections company, ECSI, has, “left a balance on the account and they are attempting to collect on it 5 years later, adding fees and interest that are more than the balance”. In fact, the complainant’s credit has dropped a whopping 80 points due to the unethical collections practices of ECSI. Because this error has caused so much damage to the complainant’s credit, they are willing to simply pay off the account in full in order to quickly resolve the problem. However, ECSI claims that, “the only way for them to repair the damage they did to the credit is to enter into a 9-month rehabilitation payment plan”. The complainant feels as though this “solution” is utterly unacceptable as the problem was created due to the actions of the collections business themselves, not the complainant.
