Is Hunt & Henriques a scam?

They’re legit. According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), Hunt & Henriques was founded in 1982. The BBB established a profile page for H&H in 2001, and the firm has been a BBB-accredited business since 2012. The BBB lists Hunt & Henriques as a law firm and collection agency.

Who does Hunt & Henriques collect for?

Hunt & Henriques specializes in collecting consumer credit card debt. They operate exclusively in California, and provide litigation services to creditors as well as buying debt to collect on their own behalf. Although Hunt & Henriques primarily focuses on credit card collections, they also take on retail cards, commercial loans, and automotive debt.

Because they are a law firm, civil litigation is the primary collection service Hunt & Henriques offers to clients and uses on its own behalf for the debt it purchases. However, this company also uses automated dialing, commonly called “robocalling,” before and after a debt is charged off to external collection. It continues attempting to collect throughout the litigation process.

Can you help me file a No Fee Lawsuit against Hunt & Henriques?

Absolutely.  You can sue a debt collector. Here are some Sample Cases filed in Federal Court

In 2016, a proposed class action filed in California claimed Hunt & Henriques, Inc. violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) by sending a collection letter to the plaintiff illegally requiring that the written dispute of the debt be submitted by mail even though disputes can be submitted on the company’s website. According to the complaint, asking the plaintiff to unnecessarily dispute a debt by mail “is likely to mislead the least sophisticated consumer since said statement places an unnecessary and inappropriate burden on the consumer” to dispute his or her debt while concealing that there are other ways to submit disputes.

Also, in 2017, a judge in U.S. District Court, Southern District of California, denied in part and granted in part a consumer’s motion to compel Hunt & Henriques to testify in Nguyen vs. LVNV Funding, in which attorneys Hunt and Henriques were named as co-defendants. According to the judge’s decision, the consumer alleged that Hunt & Henriques filed suit against him on behalf of LVNV Funding for a debt that was past the statute of limitations, and thus unenforceable, in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and California’s Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. During the deposition of Hunt and Henriques, their attorney objected to the questioning and advised Hunt and Henriques not to answer. This court action was the consumer’s attempt to have the court make Hunt and Henriques answer the questions and to sanction their attorney for expenses. The judge granted the consumer’s motions in part and denied them in part, compelling the attorneys to answer some questions, and making their legal counsel reimburse the consumer’s attorney for expenses.

Hunt & Henriques Calling You?

Federal laws protect you. The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) regulates the behavior of collection agencies by prohibiting actions such as the use of abusive or threatening language; harassment; or the use of false or misleading information to collect a debt. The FCRA regulates how collection agencies and creditors report delinquent debts to credit reporting agencies. Additional consumer protection laws include the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA).

Consumers have reported this agency harassing them from the following numbers:

  • 408-362-2270

  • 888-273-2899
  • 408-414-0394
  • 800-496-5051

Can I sue H&H for harassment?

Yes. If you want to enforce your rights, or recover money for violations — you need to sue. Federal laws provide individuals like you with a means to seek monetary damages in court. This law firm continues to send me letters regarding moving forward of motion, I don’t understand the legality of these letters but for the past two years Ive been with debt consolidation firm called Beyond Finance. They settled with the firm, but every 1-2 months I still receive these letters, I have not missed any payments. I dont understand why continue to do this, it’s intimidating and harassment.

Over 2 years ago there was fraudulent charges on a capital one card I continue to dispute the charges with capital 1 and refused to pay until they were cleared. They were never cleared so I stopped pain. They racked up over $2000 in late fees and interest. The card was written off and hunt and Henriques picked it up. Over the last couple months I’ve received multiple phone calls at work at home stating that they were going to Sue me and put a lien on my house unless I paid them over $7000. I informed them that I had been disputing the charges with capital 1 yet capital 1 decided to write-off the card instead. They would not hear me out and I received documents stating that they are filing a lawsuit. Are you guys able to help

I have had a unlawful wage garnishment placed against me from Hunt & Henriques. I am not the correct person they have the wrong social security number. Received a letter today from my employer and the county sheriff and this is the first time i have seen anything on this.

Hi….I’m glad I found you on the internet….hope you can assist or provide guidance….this is regarding a Citibank account that was included in a group of accounts settled by Freedom Debt Relief back in 2014…..(all accounts, including this account from Citibank, to my understanding, were settled and closed)….also, this Citibank account no longer shows or is listed on my credit report.

Long story short, for this particular account, I had to go though the process of having my salary with the State of California garnished by Sacramento County Sheriff, from June 2012 to August 2014, to settle debt of $7667.61.

Sac County Sheriff garnished $300 each month, AND, according to document I received from Sacramento County Sheriff….(I can fax you this document)……
    Last Payment Date…..08-13-2014
    Total Payment Received…..$8974.11
    Last Payout Date…….08-25-2014
    Total Creditor Payout……$992.80
    Total Debtor Refund…..$669.31

The document is 3 pages long showing the $300 that was garnished each month, and the payments of $288 sent to Hunt & Henriques.

Fast forward, I received in early July 2018, a MC-012, Memorandum of Cost After Judgement, Acknowledgement of Credit, and Declaration of Accrued Interest. At the bottom of page 1, under #2 & #3, it looks like they are saying I owe additional funds??? This after 4 years?….this is not clear to me.

    Thank you.
