Overview
The exterior style of the 2024 BMW IX is enhancing, but drivers continue dealing with massive safety concerns between the electrical system and driver-assist technology. Aside from those malfunctions, the IX also deals with many structure and powertrain complaints.
High voltage warning: An electrical warning appears on the information center saying “High Voltage.” At the same time, occupants receive a drive train warning, even though the EV can still be driven, it makes people uncomfortable.

Structural
Impact with interior parts: Occupants complain about hitting their heads when the vehicle accelerates or brakes hard. It appears that the molded parts near their heads are hard and too close to avoid impact.
Unusable cup holders: Unless the occupants are tall and have long arms, it’s very difficult to use the cupholders. They are placed excessively low, causing people to stretch further than what’s safe to get the cup out while driving.
Uncomfortable seats: For costing more than $100k, drivers expected to be met with a lot of comfort features, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The seats are hard and there’s no lumbar support. Also, after driving for longer distances, the legs start to hurt because of a lack of support.
Driver-Assist Technology
Slows down automatically: The IX tends to slow down when it’s not supposed to. For some people, this problem has occurred while traveling on the freeway, leading to potential accidents. In one case, the failure was reported while traveling 70 mph with no other vehicles in front of it. Unexpectedly, the IX went from 70 mph to 40 mph and cars behind it had to move out of the way. At the same time, the driver was unable to accelerate.
Parking modes fail: Both the front and rear self-parking modes fail without warning. Not only does an error code come up, but the vehicle can start moving in the wrong direction or fail to find open spaces. Some users claim it mistakes grass for parking spaces.
Acceleration while reverse parking: Drivers complain that the vehicle starts to accelerate unexpectedly while using the reverse-assisted parking function. Even with one foot on the brake pedal, the IX can move too rapidly.
Powertrain
Won’t go into Park: Owners are struggling to get the IX into Park. For one person, the vehicle flew forward in the garage after being put into Park. Thankfully, the driver still had their seat belt on and hadn’t gotten out of the vehicle. Still, it did hit the wall and damage was caused. After this occurred, the driver was unable to get the engine to shut off until they went into the house and got the physical key.
Car reverses on its own: Similar to the last situation, another driver got out of the vehicle in their garage after putting it in Park. While unloading the rear, the vehicle started to reverse into them. They were able to get alongside the vehicle and in the cabin through the backset to put the EV in Neutral, but not before they were almost killed.
