2020 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 Problems and Top Complaints – Is Your Car A Lemon?

Engine and electrical system issues among the top complaints received by the NHTSA from vehicle owners

Updated on Author: Brian Jones

Customers looking for a low-cost vehicle often shop for the 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. While it’s cheap, it’s also supposed to offer an exciting experience. Even the automaker claims that it is “a mirage you can’t miss.” Yet, the problems of this vehicle far outweigh the savings, especially the defective engine and glitchy electrical system.

Problems with the Engine

While no one is expecting a Hemi under the hood of the Mirage, it would be nice to get an engine that moved the vehicle, but that’s not the case.

Read this Edmunds review. “No pick [up] and go felt unsafe on 5 to 6 lane highways… Noisy engine as if it weren’t going to go esp. up hills. Traded it in ASAP for a SUV Buick. For the price this should be sold for 8 grand.”

Aside from the lack of power, there are other concerns. Service Bulletin #TIN-20-11A-001 talks about a chirping and squealing noise coming from the alternator belt. It’s probably just helping others “not miss” the Mirage by further drawing more attention to the vehicle.

Problems with the Electrical System

Moving beyond the engine, it doesn’t take much research to discover a ton of electrical system issues.

Here is one left with the NHTSA website. “The contact called on behalf of a friend who owns a 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage G4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, and attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact experienced the failure after the radio and air conditioning was activated, the contact was able to restart the vehicle, and the contact experienced the failure on three occasions. The vehicle was taken to [dealership], however, a diagnostic test was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 3,951.”

With all of the electrical system issues this car faces, it’s good to know that the technicians have access to the best information needed for repairs. Oh wait, according to Service Bulletin #TIN-20-00-004, that’s not the case. In fact, this communication states that dealers have received errors with the Electrical Wiring Diagrams on the Service Manuals for the 2020 Mirage G4. Basically, the techs are flying blind during repairs. What’s more interesting is that a “friend” of an owner was the one that filed the NHTSA report. The owner will not admit to driving this vehicle due to embarrassment.
