They’re legit. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) founded a profile page for RUI Credit Services, Inc. in 2007. The BBB profile page does not provide any information about RUI’s founding date. The BBB lists RUI as a collection agency.
RUI does not host a publicly accessible website. According to Manta, RUI is a privately held company … categorized under Financial Services.” Manta’s “records show it was established in 1998 and incorporated in” New York. “Current estimates show RUI… has an annual revenue of $276,000 and employs a staff of approximately 7.”
According to the LinkedIn social media network, employees at RUI are expected to abide “by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act to assist numerous businesses, medical practices, and facilities that are creditors to collect their accounts receivable.” In addition, employees“manage all functions involved in monitoring receivables resolutions and in executing the processes and tasks necessary to exceed the clients’ desired results.” RUI employees state that they“maintain… a high level of world-class customer service to navigate through multiple computer applications in a fast-paced team environment”; “handle inbound and outbound phone calls”; and “interact… with customers on a daily basis to resolve billing inquires, resolve issues, and collect payments that are in arrears.”
RUI hosts a profile page on the Facebook social media network. Overall reviews of RUI on its Facebook page give RUI a rating of 1.8 stars out of 5. Current and former employees have left reviews that range from complaints of abusive and hostile work environments to statements that it is a positive work environment. Glassdoor gives RUI a rating of 3.1 stars, with some of the pros listed as a great company culture, good pay, and supportive management that maintains discipline and integrity; and cons listed as dishonest management, horrible training, and little accountability. Indeed also provides many reviews of RUI, ranging from 5-star ratings that describe a “wonderful, helpful, and kind management team; clean and efficient workspace; and a “very supportive team atmosphere”; to 1-star ratings that describe management as “awful,” biased, unprofessional, and corrupt.

Can RUI Credit Services Sue Me or Garnish My Wages?

Complaints against RUI Credit Services cite problems resulting from disputes about the validity of debts and allegations of harassment. In February 2016, a complainant stated that he had “several issues with RUI… related to what they claim is an unpaid cable bill.” According to the complainant, RUI “began calling him and leaving voice messages that didn’t contain any information. They continued to call either every day or every other day after this point.” The complainant stated that he had “never received any written notification of any debt owed and… contested that he owes … any debt to anyone.” Initially, the complainant “didn’t respond, because he didn’t even know if RUI was… legitimate or a con artist.” Furthermore, “when he did respond,” RUI allegedly “claimed that he owed $100.00 for failing to return a rented modem from” a cable company. The complainant stated that the modem “was bought, not rented,” and that he had told the RUI representative that he would “clear this up with the cable company, which he did.” Regardless, the complainant stated that RUI“continued to call and harass him about a debt he did not owe.” Eventually, RUI “sent a written notice…almost 2 months after the harassing phone calls began.” He alleged that the notice “artificially inflated the debt to $180.00, which seemed an arbitrary number they chose.” The complainant stated that he was “currently writing to them to contest his claim, but due to the harassing measures they have already taken, he was not sure” whether RUI “will comply with regulations and cease and desist.” He also said that he had read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and counted “numerous violations,” including “harassing phone calls, failure to send a written notice of amount owed within 5 days of phone calls, and arbitrary inflation of the alleged debt from the first phone call to the written notification.” He also said he had kept “phone records of their calls and a copy of the written notice,” all of which “should prove that they did not comply with the 5-day limit of sending written notice from the first phone contact.” He also said he could “provide a list of the times that they called and establish… a pattern of harassment.”
In November 2017, a complainant stated that he had previously had an account with a telecommunications and cable company that had been “charging him for services after the account was closed. He made several attempts to work this out with them,” but they allegedly “started cutting him off and not calling back, after saying they would” follow up. Soon thereafter, he“received a collection notice” from RUI. He insisted that he does not owe the money and requested that both the cable company and RUI Credit Services stop their efforts to collect the debt.
RUI Credit Services Calling You?

The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA) regulates the behavior of collection agencies by prohibiting actions such as the use of abusive or threatening language; harassment; or the use of false or misleading information to collect a debt. The FCRA regulates how collection agencies and creditors report delinquent debts to credit reporting agencies. Additional consumer protection laws include the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Act (CFPA).

The worst company I’ve ever worked for. Their system is a joke: an automatic dialer that continuously calls clients, sometimes giving the wrong number and not updating when the customer wants to be placed on “Do not call.” The expect us to harass customers and force payments out of them. Nobody will answer a random number that comes up as Spam or give credit card information over the phone! Half the customers demanded to speak to a supervisor, but there was never one around. The supervisors were only promoted to that position because of their friendship with the manager, not their work ethnic. Constantly on their phones, taking extended break and acting holier than thou! Very unprofessional and hostile.

I worked for Rui several years ago, not for long thank God. They were not very friendly to work for. If you went late to lunch because you were on a call with a customer then that time came out of your lunch break. And if it meant you only got 10 minutes for lunch then oh well.
During training we were taught to “Dangle that carrot”, meaning if the customer on the phone was not willing to make a pymt on the spot then let them know that their cable was in danger of getting disconnected. Meanwhile I learned that the RUI was actually collecting pymts a month in advance. So if you just made a pymt to bring you up to date for the month, the next day you may get a call saying that you now owe the next months pymt if you don’t want your services to get disconnected. It took me a couple of weeks to realize that I was actually lying to these people and telling them they owed money when they didn’t. I’m not a dishonest person and quickly learned that this was not the place for me. At the end of the day before we went home we had to let our superiors know how many pymts we received for the day and employees that got the most pymts would get a prize. It was really an unethical place to work for and went totally against my beliefs. Very sad.
If mgmt saw you walking in the hallway during a lunch break or any time at all, no smile, no hello, as if you didn’t even exist. So morbid.

I received a notification through credit monitoring with credit bureau that there was a change in my file. Upon reviewing, it showed a entry by RUI days after I paid the bill to comcast.
I’ve disputed the entry.
