Is Joseph, Mann & Creed a scam?

They’re legit. The BBB lists Joseph, Mann, & Creed as a legitimate collection agency on their profile page.  They paid on contingency, meaning that they don’t get paid unless and until they obtain money from customers. This means that they’re highly motivated not to just get in touch with a customer, but also to ensure they obtain payment. Joseph, Mann, & Creed handles set accounts that require litigation in court, but seems to prefer not to pursue this tactic until absolutely needed. Instead, they utilize strength research, skip tracing, automated letters and calling, and other strategies for collection.

I have had the same problem with Hugesnet like everyone else. Pay them for cancellation fee then they want there equipment back. Sent it all back then get another bill and another bill. Its almost 2 years later and we are still dealing with them saying we owe the 208 dollars when we have paid everything and sent everything back. Now they are sending us to collections with Joseph mann and creed. What can we do? They are doing this to everyone. They also take forever to get a supervisor on the phone.

I too have been scammed by Hughs net. I moved from the area cancelled my service. I paid the fee for early cancellation. Requested a return box to send back equipment as required. Sent them everything that was listed on the paper that was in the box. Received a bill the next month, called the was told they didn’t get the box. I kept the shipping receipt and gave it to them and they said disregard it I shouldn’t get any more bills. Next month same thing..called told me the same thing again gave them the shipping#. Next month another bill called again this time they tell me something was missing in the box. Didn’t know but said it wasn’t in the box or it could have been defective if they got it??? I then asked to speak to supervisor (don’t think they put the real one on) after 28 minutes she said she will do an override don’t worry all taken care of disregard any bills. Next month same thing called same excuse as month before. Next month another bill sent it back with a letter of the comp# for the calls made I told them they needed to get it together and quite sending these bills. After I sent the bill back I then got a call from this collector. I call them back told them I was upset that this could go on like this it’s wrong and again I am told I didn’t send the everything or it was defective. I asked again for a supervisor she put me on hold twice said they were busy after 39 minutes of waiting. I then told them I have the shipping weight I can prove everything was in the box, she told me they didn’t know. If they don’t know how can I be charged for something they don’t know. I will fight this to the end, as a retired deputy I am honest , truthful and abide by the laws will not take what don’t belong to me and they..and they will not get anything more from me because I have paid them the cancellation fee and sent all the equipment back the way I received them. Everything worked fine to the day it was cancelled. It’s ashame this can continue with this company for I have read many bad reviews.

HughesNet advertised a download speed of 25 Mbps and based on this I signed up with them to be my ISP (internet service provider. within a week after installation, i noticed that there was a buffer problem (movie stops and starts) with the movies i was streaming.
I began to check the download speeds at various times of the day and found them to be
6-10 Mbps. (less than half of what they advertised. To document the download speeds i used SnagIt – a 3rd party software that actually takes a screenshot of whats on the screen. When HughesNet couldn’t or wouldn’t fix the problem within 3 months, I cancelled my service with them of which they have charged me with a $625 early cancellation fee added to my last bill. I offered to pay for my last months service but not the early cancellation penalty. After 2 months they assigned my account to Joseph, Mann, & Creed. When I tried to respond to their collection through the emai my correspondece is returned as undeliverable. From what I’ve read about this company, it won’t do much good to dispute the debt.
    Need some advice.

I rec’d a letter from Joseph Mann & Creed stating I was to pay $431.37 for HughesNet. services. I had signed up in God Faith that I would be getting internet only. First of all, they put a defective modem in, which was verified by a customer service rep when I called to complain. This all started the end of January 2107 and by the end of February 2017 I was so upset, being I didn’t have internet and I was paying (they were extracting $61.37 automatically) from my checking acct. I was calling cust. serv like every day and getting no where. I finally was told I would be charged $200 for a tech to come out. I said absolutely not. For them to cancel my account – I was paying for something I wasn’t getting. Then I get this demand letter from collection agency for $431.37. Nice scam – in speaking with many people in this area, they have had the same experience. Please, I am 81 years old and live on a fixed income. I can’t / will not pay for something I never had.
