2020 Jaguar F-Pace Problems and Top Complaints – Is Your Car A Lemon?

Exterior lighting, build quality and engine issues among the top complaints received by the NHTSA from vehicle owners

Updated on Author: Brian Jones

For drivers in the market for a luxury SUV, the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace seems to be a top choice. The automaker claims it helps people “exercise composure,” but customers are anything but calm and collected right now. Instead, they are left dealing with a shoddy structure and troubles with the exterior lighting.

Problems with the Build Quality

For the premium price paid for the F-Pace, one would expect that even the smallest design details would have been worked out. However, that’s not the case.

Just look at this NHTSA review. “I was reaching for groceries in the back of my F-Pace and burned the front of my leg above my knee on the tailpipe.”

Imagine trying to be composed after burning the skin off of a knee. Ouch! However, this isn’t the only structure-related issue. Service Bulletin #SSM74460 states that the deployable side steps are not stowing or extending as intended when the door is opened or closed. What’s most alarming about this communication is that Jaguar admits it’s been occurring since the 2018 models. That’s three years of SUVs that have this defect without a repair in sight. It doesn’t seem that complicated to figure out how to make steps move in and out at appropriate times. It turns out that owners are in fact, getting plenty of “exercise” after all, by climbing in and out of this SUV.

Exterior Lighting Problems

Along with the structure, it appears that the 2020 Jaguar F-Pace is struggling with many of the fundamental systems.

In this Edmunds review, it’s clear that many parts are fallible, including the exterior lighting. “Purchased my 2020 F-Pace Prestige July first and as of today with 2336 miles, have had the following issues; rubber gasket around tailgate-replaced, front & rear mudflaps replaced, right rear tail light housing replaced, alternator replaced, and not coolant fluid leak. In my opinion overall quality and reliability is poor. Sorry I ever bought this lemon. I may bite the bullet and take a loss and buy the Alfa Stevio.”

Problems with the Engine

What’s the most essential part of any vehicle? Most people would agree that the engine is the most vital. However, Jaguar communications are also filled with alerts about engine troubles, on top of all the other problems.

For example, Service Bulletin #SFCC Jul20_21 states that the Check Engine Light is on while the motor shakes. Another one, Service Bulletin #SFCC Jul20_18 says that the Check Engine Light is on while the motor has a lack of power. A third one, Service Bulletin #SFCC Jul20_20 describes a strange noise coming from the motor. Sadly, there’s a long list of more engine problems, but this should illustrate the point.

The F-Pace wasn’t built to premium standards and leaves a lot to be desired. Many customers are, in fact, choosing to “exercise composure,” by leaving the automaker altogether and switching brands. At this point, it would be better to own a junk SUV versus driving this poorly-built option.
